quick question, can you use credit cards on board?

You most definitely can't use a credit card in the shops onboard. I have cruised several times and it was made clear that all charges have to go through your KTTW card. The Disney Cruise website specifically says this, also:

"On board our ships, all transactions are in U.S. dollars. However, you won't need cash while we're at sea because Disney Cruise Line has a convenient "cash-free" system on board the ship. When you arrive at the Walt Disney World® Resort or at the Disney Cruise Line terminal at Port Canaveral, your signature will be requested for check-in. At this time you may also present a credit card (Visa®, MasterCard®, American Express®, Discover® Card, Diners Club®, Japanese Credit Bureau or Disney's Visa® Credit Card) which will give you charging privileges at both the Walt Disney World Resort and aboard the ship. Any purchases on the ship, including beverage services, spa, salon services, photography, medical and laundry services, purchases from our retail shops, gratuities and any item or service of a personal nature must be charged to your room."

I just don't want anyone reading this to be confused about this issue.

Fred....Rude is ok if you know what your talking about.....I dont understand how you can tell me that I cannot use a credit card in the 2 souvenier shops. I used my visa card....VISA, NOT my KTTW and NOT the credit card that was linked to my KTTW card. I did it last year on the Jan 10th Eastern and this year on the Jan 29th Western. I purchased a pullover Cruise line jacket this year and used my regular visa card. It just happened to be stolen out of my luggage as were a few other things and I had the receipt showing my credit card last 4 numbers which inturn was sent to Spirit airlines for reimbursement. I know what I used and cannot believe you are basically accusing me of lying.....

For anyone cruising....you CAN use your regular credit cards in the 2 shops. I cant imagine that I was special over anyone else

You can DEFINATELY use a Visa/MC in the gift shops on the cruise. We did it just last August. No questions at all as to why we wanted our purchase on this Visa Card vs the one we used on our Key to the World. Trust me, you can do this!

I am another surprised by this. I haven't had the luck (yet ) of having someone foot our bill, but I did try and surprise DH last September with a purchase in Treasure's Ketch, and was told SORRY! SO, maybe this has since been done, but definitely not back then when I wanted to do it.

I put in on my cousin's KTTW card, and simply paid her cash...That would be new..

Like I said, I was pretty sure I witnessed someone paying with a regular VISA card in Mickeys Mate on our Nov cruise. I was surprised too.
