Counting down the days til out 1st cruise. Are you able to use credit cards at the gift shops on board, or does everything need to go through our KTTW card? My MIL is footing the bill for this great trip, but we don't want her to buy our gifts (plus we may need to get a little thank you for her).

jerry on!!!
bill

When you fill out your cruise documents put your credit card number down and that number will be used for purchases on your KTTW card.

Thanks aprilgail2, but my MIL is insisting that all out KTTW cards have her cc # on them. We would like to be able to purchase some things without her having to foot the entire bill.

I'm pretty sure that you have to pay for things with your keys to the kingdom card but....

Couldn't you buy stuff and then go down to guest services and pay that amount towards the account before the end of the cruise? That way you could cover your portion and she really couldn't say anything about it.

I am pretty sure I saw guests using credit cards in Mickey Mates for purchases ,as opposed to the KTTW card.

thanks dzneprincess, I'll suggest this to my dw.

Why oh why did I ever find this site? All of a sudden I am the Curise Answer Man. Doesn't anyone else in my family know how to use the net?!?!?

BTW, this site as been a great service over the last year. I mostly lurk and have learned alot about our land/sea trip. I will miss this site when I am done.

Why do you have to leave? LOL I stay here ven when I do not have a cruise planned and live vicariously thru others!

I do not know how Disney handles this but about 6 years old my husband and I took our son and daughter-in-law on a Celebrity cruise. We too insisted upon paying for all incidentals and used our credit card. My son and daughter-in-law wanted to buy us something so they spoke to the pursur (sp?) who arranged to allow them to purchase an item in the gift shop on their charge card. You could do this or purchase them something when you are shopping on one of the islands.

No....credit cards cannot be used in any of the shops.....it must go through your KTTW card.

You can go down to guest service and get a print out to see what exactly was purchased, when and by whom and then settle up with your mom....or, if you can slip it past her, register your CC to your KTTW card....

I go to GS several times over the course of the cruise just to check that everthing is in order....I like to see what the kids are purchasing...the kids...they are 21, 20 and 17!!!!

My DH used his credit card for purchases in Treasure Ketch. He knew I would go over the stateroom account pretty closely so he used a regular credit card to surprise me with a gift.

I stand corrected if they let you use a regular CC in the shops...I have sailed with them 13 times, since day one of their operation and never head of this...maybe they allow it with special permission but I do not think it is standard practice.

Disney Dollars can be used toward paying off your account, but again I do not think they can be used directly in the shops onboard. FYI...Disney Dollars are be redesigned for the anniversary at DL so most of the Disney stores are currently out of stock or have very low inventory of DD's. They should be supplied to all the stores sometime in May with the newly designed ones.

You can go to GS at anytime and apply any amount from any card that you want against you account, so i don't see why you can't just buy what you want and on the way back to the room stop off at GS and "pay" for it.

Why make an extra stop when you can just pay for it at the actual cash register?

Is this new?....I was always under the impression that ALL purchases onboard must be made using KTTW card.....NyGiantsRule, are you sure about this?

I was also under the impression that ALL purchases made on board were with the KTTW card...the ship is cashless...and did not acept anything else.

I'd say to be safe...you can call DCL and ask if purchases can be made with at Credit Card at the ship stores...or try and get at least one of your KTTW cards with your credit card information....I don't think it would be hard to put your info down...since you'll have to fill your own stuff out...and you'll have to be there when it's handed in. That way if you have only ONE of your KTTW card..it will still show some purchases to her account..but for what ever your wanting to pick up....won't even show up on her bill.

Of course you could always go to GS and make payments...but that also may cause problems with her in the end...if she is wanting to pick it all up...and you keep making payments towards her account...she could get upset.

4 DCl cruises and have never seen anything but KTTW cards used throughout the ship, and then other forms of payment may be used at GS. Perhaps many of us would benefit if the previous posters who have related experience of using other forms of payment in treasure ketch, or if there was another example that I am forgetting, and provide us with the details of how that was arranged. My answer to this would have been like others, if you don't want someone else to pay your tab for on board spending, go to GS and make a partial payment toward an account with a credit card, or cash, or--as I did on the 4/2/05 Magic, using the Disney Rewards Dollars off a Disney Rewards card, from my DCL Visa. Only place I have ever seen anything but KTTW is tipping of room service and for those who choose to tip w/ cash to their servers or stateroom host.

I checked with my DH and he said that he did use his credit card in the gift shop. They did ask him why he wanted to use it instead of the KTTW and he told them it was for a gift and he did not want it on the shipboard account. They were fine with that.

My mom tried the same thing!

She paid for our first cruise and said she wanted her credit card on our cabin so she could pay for our incidentals. I put my foot down and said no; I wanted to avoid any potential griping about the daquiris, t shirts, spa treatments etc. we would purchase. I said it was a very nice thing to do but paying for our fare was a grand gift and we'd be more comfortable paying for our own incidentals. And I won that one.

Yes You Can Use Your Regular Credit Cards In The Souvenier Shops. I Have Used A Different Visa Card Each Time....and Neither Were Linked To My Kttw. They Accept Regular Credit Cards In The Shops Only.
