Are you sure that OTU points for a post January 2019 resale can be used at RIV? My understanding is that the OTU points would be restricted as well unless the resale was at RIV in which case it can only be used at RIV and the OTU points could not be used at L14 resorts.Just to clarify, OTU points can be purchased at 7 months or less for any reservation.
The status of the member does not matter as these are points owned by DVC. So, resale or direct, white card or blue, OTU points are available to all.
The only difference is that someone with qualified points...and there are white card owners with those...can use their own points with OTU points for RIV.
Resale owners who bought after January 2019 would be limited to only the 24, which would be get maybe one night.

Thanks. I was looking into buying an add on and my guide told me that the restrictions would convey to all points including OTU. But I had other issues with that guide so I didn’t trust everything he said. While I have not done it myself, yes, I have heard you can purchase for a night at RIV. It would be its own reservation.
Since both my memberships have qualified points, I’d be eligible regardless so now way for me to verify,,,basing on what I have heard from others who were told that.

Interesting, so if a post Jan 2019 resale owner have 2 membership due to user year can get 2 nights at Riviera?
Up to a max of 8 nights (each its own reservation) if you have 8 different membership?![]()
Technically, if what I have seen reported is true, then every UY is allowed to purchase 24 OTU points at 7 months or less.
I have two UYs so I am allowed to buy up to 48 toward a trip to if I book part on one membership and one on the other.
As I said, I have not actually tried and can’t even attempt to try since I have qualified points in both for booking RIV..though I also have BLT points that can’t be used there.
I believe OTU points can only be purchased on the phone with Member Services. So even though you don’t see RIV as an option, it might be if you call and buy them over the phone.
I see, might need to purchase the OTU points first to see the option. Thanks.
No plan to try it at this time.
Oh wow! I didn't think I could do that. I guess I'll be able to tick Riviera off my list after all! Of course with the 30% off room discount, it would be $495.37 for a Saturday night in June paying cash or $437 buying OTU points... I guess that is a savings![]()
I personally think the resale restrictions are absurd, but given they are what they are, this would indeed be a way to do it if they wanted to allow it.Let us know if you are allowed to actually do it. I have read elsewhere that someone was told that but didn’t actually purchase.
But, I can see this becoming an enhancement for DVC to allow resale buyers to book new resorts. Just allow people to buy more than 24 OTU when booking a restricted resorts. If it gets canceled, those points are still only good at the new resorts and still expire at end of UY.
Wouldn’t be something owners would want to do very often but it would be a way for the occasional trip!!!
This could be a great way to drive direct sales - try a night on OTU points, and then decide you need more points to spend specifically at Riviera.I personally think the resale restrictions are absurd, but given they are what they are, this would indeed be a way to do it if they wanted to allow it.
