Quick question about touring DVC properties

My husband and I currently rent points, but are considering buying in the future (within a few years, but not this year). So, we are going to be staying at SSR this January, and we would like to check out some of the other DVC properties while we are there. We are pretty certain that we will either want to buy at BCV or VWL, so we are most interested in checking out the rooms and common areas in these resorts - What is the best way to go about doing this? Can we just stop by the front desk, or do we need a DVC salesrep? Will they be interested in helping us if we do not want to purchase at SSR or the upcoming AKV?

The only way you'll be able to check out the rooms at BCV or VWL is to get someone to show you a vacant villa, if there is a vacant villa. You won't be able to do that on your own. You can go over to the resort and check out the common areas, but neither of these areas are staffed at the two resorts you are interested in. If you take the tour with a DVC guide, they will make you an offer that you will have to take or leave within maybe 48 hours (??). If you choose not to buy now, technically, you won't get the discounted offer at a later time (like $15 off per point at SSR, etc).

You can go to the WDW website, click on Disney Vacation Club and check out the villas that way, including floor plans and photos of the rooms.

We just bought SSR last year and wanted to check out all the resorts during our latest trip in August. We saw SSR last year, and BWV has a model open so that wasn't an issue, we just walked right in off the boardwalk. At OKW and VWL we went to the front desk at the resorts and explained that we would like to see a room if one was available. We waited a good half hour for someone to be able to show us a room at OKW and we only had to wait about 10 minutes at VWL. We didn't mind the wait because it gave us some time to look around the common areas, and the kids enjoyed the cartoons in the lobby at OKW. I would just recommend you ask to see the room first before looking around with the expectation that you may have to wait for someone who is available to show you a room. Both rooms we saw were 2 BRs. It was time well spent as now I know that my wife likes the VWL a lot more than I thought she would, and to get a glimpse of those VWL elevator doors. What an unbelievable sight. Unfortunately we did not make it over to the BCV. Maybe on our next visit.

Thank you for your responses I think we will first see if we can check out the rooms on our own by asking at the front desk, and hopefully that will work out. I hate to take up a salesperson's time since we really will not/cannot buy this year (as much as I'd like to!). This way, though, when we are ready to buy we will know where! Unless, that is, if they build the CRV, since that is something we might be interested in as well...
