Quick question about child ticket

We are planning a trip for grandsons birthday and he will be 2 when we check in but will be turning 3 during the trip.My question is would we add him as a 3 yr old from the beginning or as a 2 yr old and then buy a child's ticket for him for only the days he will be 3?

Are you staying on property? My understanding was that you are the age you are at the beginning of the trip. I would think he would be free all week. Either way, I doubt cast members will be asking for a birth certificate the day after his birthday.

I believe I have read here that the age they look at is the age at check in. No need to add when he turns 3 at all. Again, I just read that here. I'm sure others will chime in too.

If staying on Disney property it is age on first day of the reservation.

Yes we are staying on site so he is considered to be 2 for the entire week correct? Will we need to bring his birth certificate with us to verify his age at check-in? And also how does it work for the dining plan if anyone knows.Sorry for all the questions just trying to make sure we are following all the policies correctly.

You won't need a birth certificate.

He will not receive any dining plan credits; you'll need to pay OOP for him or let him share with you.

Same is true for the DDP. He will be the age at checkin for the entire week.
I don't think you will need a Birth Certificate, but bring a copy if it will ease your mind
