I have rented points in the past and things seem to be a little different. I am finding that a lot is booked up, maybe it's just the date. We are planning to go this fall. My favorites are WL, BCV, AKL, Polynesian and all I'm finding available during this time is Old Key West & Saratoga Springs. Is this a really busy time of year to go OR is it because we are just inside the 7 month window and things haven't completely opened up yet? Not sure how to ask that, but advice on what to do, wait or try to change dates? THANKS!

There is a lot going on at that time that draws DVC owners to WDW. The primary draw is the Food & Wine Festival which causes the Epcot resorts (BCV, BWV) to book up by the time the 7-month window opens or immediately after. In addition to F&W you have MNSSHP, UK school vacation, and the great weather in October all resulting in very limited or no availability at any resort other than SSR and OKW.

I've noticed in past years that the resorts seem to book up especially early for Columbus Day weekend. Columbus Day is Oct 12 this year.

As additional new contracts are sold, availability has no choice but to get more competitive and success will become more difficult to achieve.

Disney sold 2000 contracts in February.

It's a really busy time, you're a little late in the planning process for how DVC works currently. You could work with a member to wait list something that you're be happier with but there are a lot less members willing to do that than would simply rent to you. What you might consider is finding an individual and renting SSR or OKW with a wait list for 2 of the options that you'd prefer (members can only have 2 WL). Maybe go ahead and pay the entire amount up front for the more expensive option with an agreement for a refund it the WL didn't come through. You're only risks would be the inherent risks of renting and the difference between the lower and higher end options.

Columbus Day week has been getting more and more popular. Several of the southern schools have that entire week off for a fall break.

I do not give a waitlist for your dates much chance of working for the resorts you mention (or BLT or BWV). FWIW, I do not think SSR or OKW will be open for that entire week much longer, either.

If you want to rent points for the trip, my advice is to change your dates if that is an option. Give your broker/owner several options if you can. Good luck!

Unfortunately, there are times in the fall that get fully booked pretty quickly now as it is so popular. Things will only open up if people cancel or change trips. To capitalize on that, you would have to find an owner willing to wait list a different resort for you and that could be tough as not many owners are going to do that if you aren't going to book a back up to start.
