Do you need to pay to ride the monorail if you don't have a Park Pass? Or for that matter, the other transportation options around the Parks?

We were going to do some resort hopping to check out some options for the next trip on our arrival day, which we don't have a Park Pass for.

Thanks everyone!

If you are staying in a WDW resort, your resort ID is sufficient for all WDW guest transportation options.

I may be wrong, but I think all on-site guests can use the transportation system, whether they have park passes or not.

There is no way to pay for the monorail or other Disney transportation. In principle you need to stay at a Disney resort or hold a multi-day pass to use Disney transportation, but this is seldom if ever enforced.

Resort hopping via Disney transportation can be time consuming as Disney buses go between resorts and parks, but not directly from resort to resort. You can easily get from one monorail resort to another, or from one Epcot resort to another, but other resorts are best visited using a car.

WDW Transportation is free to all guests. It is even part of the parking tram spiel at Studios and Animal Kingdom: "To your right/left are the Disney Transport busses, which can take you free of charge to any other part of WDW property."

Speaking of monorails...

1 May 2003: Monorail Updates
All twelve Mark VI Monorails are getting updated computer control systems. Monorail Yellow has already been upgraded with the new computer/console, and has been running on the system for a couple of weeks now. The cab console now features a touch screen windows based operating system, with more detailed malfunction descriptions, more flexible control over air conditioning units throughout the train and door operations, completely automated spiels, and more diagnostic information for the maintenance staff.

Hi juliej2001--Welcome to the DIS. You do not require a park pass to ride the monorail.

Enjoy planning your trip.

Once upon a time, there was a "transportation pass" for those without multiday passes or resort rooms. They gave this up quite a while ago. With the exponential increase in places to get your money, they want you to move around between them as freely as possible.

Oh great. Now we'll be stuck somewhere because Windows crashed and we have to wait for it to reboot. ;)
