We are only at Universal for one day and are having dinner at Margaritavilles. So I want a quick & cheap lunch option. Is there anyplace in US that I should try? CityWalk looks yummy but expensive and as if it would take a longer time than we'd like.

Thanks,
Pye

I would do Monster Cafe (if open) or Ritcher's Burgers. Avoid Mel's Diner at all costs. The food is gross!

I agree with Barry, Richter is my fav. quick spot at US, Monster is good but rarely open these days, they have really good one pound hotdog at the place near Jaws' exit. And yes I agree also thet mel's is awful.

I would eat at Cafe La Bamba located in Hollywood section. Chicken and ribs easy and quick and decent food.

If your looking for a burger I would eat at Richters Burger Co. Its right across from Eathquake in San Fran area.

We also like to grab a quick bite at Beverly Hills Boulangerie. This may be a great idea if you want quick and a smaller meal to save your appetite for Margaritaville. They have really good turkey or ham and swiss on croissants that come with a side of potato salad for about $7.00. Fresh fruit and salads also and really good cookies and baked goods! The coffee is great here too. We usually have breakfast here as we enter the park.

The only place we ate inside US was the International Food and Film Festival and it was awful. Avoid eating thare at all costs. It's a mistake we won't make again.

Try Louies. They have italian counter service and it's good. Also very economic. It was the cheapest lunch we had there. We spent $20 and it included pizza for 3, caesar salads, breadsticks, sauce and drinks. It was very tasty. Not NY pizza, but good.

I agree with Louis' Pizza. We liked it so much, we ate there twice. ALSO, milk was available right there at the counter....3 flavors, no less! I also agree with Mel's Diner being disgusting! The only "ok" thing we had there was my choc. shake....fries were the worst ever!

It's bad to hear about Mel's!!!! It looks so great from outside. I've never been, but guess I won't try it unless I want a milkshake and nothing else....:(

Schwabs makes good milkshakes as well.

And how could I forget Louie's? It's one of my faves!!!

Schwabs=good milkshakes......

Something else to add to my notes!!!!

Thanks Marauder!!!! Will definitely check that out!

I like the Monster Cafe---the decor is GREAT! They don't have a lot of offerings, but I like the roast chicken. It's a great change from theme park burgers and pizza every day!

Spideyhulk, Schwabs Pharmacy has the best ice cream in USF, IMO. I got a vanilla shake and watched it be made before the Shrek preview way back when. It was good stuff!

Marauder- I'm getting hungry. That sounds great. I will definitely check Schwabs out when I go next month. Thanks for the tip.

So tell me more about Monster's cafe. I haven't been myself, but I want to check it out. What makes the decor so great? What's the theming?

Thanks,

David

SpideyHulk---I never knew you had an actual name!!! LOL!!!!!

Monster Cafe is decorated with pictures and props from all of the monster films that made Universal great, and TV's play clips and trailers. There is a "Swamp" area and a "Crypt" area. Each little room has memorabilia from a different movie. We try to sit in the Frankenstein room. During past trips, character monsters wandered around for photos!

Up until this year, they had REAL plates and silverware, and people bussed your table for you. This year it was all plastic, but someone did bus our table. There are salads, one or two pasta dishes, pizza, and the 1/4 or 1/2 roasted chicken dinner (w/ fries and corn on the cob).

Wow!!!! That sounds cool. I will definitely go there on my next trip.

Oh Well, my secret is out.
