Quick Insurance Question

As the flights are booked my next task is to sort out our travel insurance. In the last few years we have just gone to Europe and I have teneded just to go with the cheapest, but I know that I neeed to be careful about medical expenses in the US. I've seen policies with £10,000,000, £5,000,000 and as little as £2,000,000 worth of cover for medical expenses.

So my question is, what level of cover would you deem adequate for medical expenses for a trip to the US?

my last couple have had around 10 million i think. last one we got from aa as I was pregnant with twins and they were one of the only ones to cover us and it was quite expensive but atlas direct we got a annual policy for usa for around £30 which covered every we needed including baggage

I look for $5 million min.

With USA, if unsure, go for the higher amount. Medical in the USA is private and the prices reflect it ....!! I rather pay an extra £20 or so and know that I am covered.

To give you an idea, our last trip in 2008 my daughter fell over and hurt her arm. The manager at Pop Century insisted we go to the local hospital. So, 1x ambulance to Celebration Hospital, 2x doctors to look at her arm, 1x Xray, 1x sling,1x prescription for pain relief = £1,500. So just imagine (god forbid) you, or all of you are in a serious accident,how much it would cost! I would say the more you can cover yourself for the better.

So it looks like there is no consensus then

MSE reckon 2,000,000 is enough, but others would go for higher...ah well...I'll just have to go with the one that feels right at the time I guess
