Quick, I need help for my MIL

Hi friends,
I need some help for my MIL. She is going on a cruise (not Dis) and has a problem. A friend gave her a cruise for a present. Her friend booked the cruise under her middle name, which is what everyone calls her (Let's say Marie). Her travel agent is now giving her a bunch of stuff about the fact that her passport lists her full name (Lets say Elizabeth Marie) and that she did not have the cruise booked as "Elizabeth". It isn't her fault, she didn't book the darn thing. This seems kind of silly to me as "Marie" IS on her passport, it is her middle name. The TA is insisting on changing it and charging her the fee to do so. Does anyone have experience with this? I have had similar situations as I went by my middle name through childhood (Becky) and have had plane tickets, medications and such registered as "Becky" even though my license says "Angela Rebecca". Does she really need to switch the registration on the ship if her birth certificate and passport clearly have her middle name on them?

I would contact the cruise line and ask them their policy on it....My
daughters docs came with her being listed as a male...clearly not
my fault but had to get it changed and they had to override the
change fee on it....

I'd suggest she call the cruiseline directly and get it from them. If they could email her or fax her something that would be even better. It would ease her mind if she knew what the cruiseline said and then she could fight the TA if she had an arsenal.

TA's don't set the rules for how your names need to be on documents. If she's traveling international, especially, it's very important that her name match what's on her ID! I'm not sure if she even has an airline ticket but they will want the correct name also.

I am not sure, you may have skipped over it, but it IS her real and given middle name. She has it listed as "Marie" the TA wants "Elizabeth" and her given name is "Elizabeth Marie"

What about going by E. Marie? My husband goes by his middle name also, I had everything listed in his middle name. As long as his middle name and his last name matched it wasn't a problem. This was BEFORE 9/11. This time I had passport list his middle name as his "name". When you fill out the passport application you are allowed to put the name you "go by"...I hope I haven't confused things up even more...just trying to help.

Just to let you know, I did call the cruise line and she said they prefer to see the full name on the passport, so I guess my MIL will need to change it to her full name.
