I'm at home, have to go pick up kids from school, and the back driver's side tire is flat. I tried to loosen lug nuts for 15 minutes, and they won't budge! (And yes, I'm going counter-clockwise per car manual)

Anyway, DH is on way to airport for a conference, our AAA expired (don't want to pay 91.50 to renew and then another couple of hundred for tires).

Any suggestions for loosening lug nuts????

TIA!

If you have a star lug wrench use that. It gives more leverage.

You can also try a metal pipe that fits over the lug wrench to give the wrench more length and greater torque ("cheater pipe").

Good luck!

try carefully standing on the wrench and bouncing. it will be loud. don't hurt yourself. also, the tire needs to be in contact with the ground so it doesn't spin.

Be sure that the car is still on the ground when you battle with the lug nuts. Get them un-stuck, and then jack up the car.

WD40 may take a while. (Carefully) try the pipe solution. If no pipe is available, use your foot on the wrench to break the nuts loose.

How handy are you? You can heat the nut with a torch to break them loose. But be careful, many things on cars are flammable and ven explosive.

What does the wrench look like. Adding a pipe onto the end increases your leverage. I have often stood on the end of the wrench and try to bounce a little to break them loose. That is what hapens when they are put on with a air wrench.

That's how I loosen lug nuts. I carefully stand on the lever end of the lug wrench and jump up and down a bit, while holding on to the side of the car. Always works for me.

me too. But you do have to be careful not to bend the wrench or the nut.

Make sure the wrench is on the nut good and kick it with your foot. If that doesn't work stand on it and bounce like tigger.

well, looks like I'm going to have to fork over $$$ for AAA.

Tried:

WD 40
Stomping on wrench (which btw is the crappy one that comes with the car-- unfortunately, that's all I have right now)
Cursing excessively at it

None of the above so much as moved them, and now the lug nuts looked scratched up. I'm afraid to try standing on it. I am the world's worst klutz, and will probably break a leg!

I've changed tires before, but have never ever had this much trouble w/ the nuts before. I'm BEYOND P.O'd right now!

Thanks for all your advice guys. Gotta figure out how to get my son from school now.

Soory didn't get to you in time but another good way it to place the Jack under the end of the wrench. And jack it up until it breaks loose. Do this with each one then and jack up the car/van and replace.
