Hello! We just got back from an amazing 9 day trip to WDW staying at the lovely BCV. This was my first trip traveling with not one but 2 children in addition to 10 other family members! In total, there were 8 adults, 6 kids under the age of 9. So, our dinners were pretty hectic. Truth be told, I don't really remember the food with the accuracy and thoughtfulness that others on here have described. I have always really enjoyed reading people's dining reviews while preparing for a trip. So I thought I would create a really quick one with some thoughts on each place we visited.
Monday, 8/4
Adult Beverage: Fiesta Margarita - refreshing and STRONG!
Lunch @ La Cantina de San Angel - I had empandas and for dessert the churros. They were pretty good. I mean, I lived in South Texas so I've had GOOD mexican food before. We always come here for a lunch on our trips.
Dinner @ Chefs de France - We've always had really good meals here. They accommodated our gigantic crazy party and we had EXCELLENT service. He was very patient and attentive. I went with the Prix Fix and selected lobster bisque, short ribs over polenta and profiteroles for dessert. Everything was good as usual. We will definitely return.
Tues, 8/5
Lunch @ Columbia Harbour House - Very chaotic lunch there. LOTS of people, the line was very disorganized, people pushing, etc. Anchors Aweigh sandwich was good. Excellent kids choices.
Dinner @ Boardwalk Bakery - Tired after a full MK day. Grabbed a grilled chicken salad which was delish. All white meat chicken, mixed greens with apples and cranberries. Husband ordered the lobster roll and said it was fantastic. Big chunks of lobster, hardly any mayo. We got a fruit tart and a mickey oreo cupcake to bring back to the room.
Wed, 8/6
Lunch@ Sunshine Seasons - I feel very "meh" about SS, which is a bummer because I really love this place. I got the turkey sandwich that was LOADED with some gross orange chipotle sauce. I feel like I ordered that a few years ago and it did NOT have that sauce on it. Or maybe it did, but not quite so much? In any event..it was gross. I got the key lime tart for dessert which was excellent.
Dinner @ Yachtsman - I am so sad to say that this was a HUGE disappointment. I've read on so many Disney sites that this is the best restaurant on property. We were so excited to check it out. We ordered sitters from Kids Nite Out, got all dolled up and everything! We got sat right away, our server was lovely, but everything was SO oversalted, it was really inedible. The lobster bisque that my dad ordered was salty to begin with...but then they added a parmesan crisp on top which made it so insanely salty that you could barely get through a spoonful. I ordered the Land Salad and I was literally chewing on salt crystals. It was so bizarre. Our steaks came out cooked perfectly, but again....so so salty. I was all set on ordering the salted caramel dessert but was afraid my kidneys would shut down. We just ordered some desserts to go. I don't even remember what they were. Maybe a cherry cheesecake? Not really memorable I guess.
Thurs, 8/7
10:30 treat: Dole whip with rum. Note: The rum sits at the bottom of your drink. Wait for your dole whip to melt a bit unless you want a slug of straight rum.
Lunch @ Flame Tree - Man, this place is so awesome. Take my advice and have an early lunch there. It's a zoo when it's busy, but we went around 11:15 and it was quiet and the food was hot and delicious. Pulled pork, onion rings and beans. Amazing. The only thing that I did not enjoy was the key lime parfait they give you on DDP. It was absolutely disgusting! Awful texture and it tasted like cleaning products. I spit it out.
Dinner @ Boma - This is one of those meals I don't remember very well. The kids were all hot and tired. Thankfully we made a reservation as soon as they opened. The kids were beat from a full day at AK. I do remember that we all enjoyed an african dish of grits with stewed tomato on top. We've been here a few times and it is always good. Lots of fresh salads and soups.
Fri, 8/8
Lunch - ??? LOL! I have no clue. Seriously.
Dinner - After our disappointing signature dinner at Yachtsman, we decided to cancel our date-night reservation at Artist Point. I just couldn't risk wasting points on yet another disappointing meal. Plus, I was really not wanting to trek over to WL. So hubby and I decided to eat at Captains Grille at the Yacht Club...and we LOVED IT! This was our best meal while we were there. It really is a hidden little gem. Husband ordered a Mai Tai and a mussels and clams appetizer. I ordered a white wine flight (3 generously poured white wines). For entrees I ordered the crab cakes and my husband ordered the snow crab legs. We both just loved our food. The crab cakes were all lump white meat crab, with a tangy succotash and a lightly dressed salad of mixed greens on top. The snow crab legs were nice and sweet and were a good size. For dessert, we ordered a s'mores dessert and cheesecake to go.
I don't know if we were so pleased with this dinner because we didn't have any high expectations, or if it's because you rarely hear about this place...but consider our socks blown off!
Saturday, 8/9
Lunch @ Akershus - Princess lunch : We all agreed that we would NEVER do this lunch with a gigantic group of tired cranky little girls again. LOL. It just seemed very unorganized. They put us in a long table in the back. When the grownups went up to get items off the buffet, a princess would come around. So we had to literally RUN to the table, snap pics, cut up food for the little ones, they would just start eating and then another princess would come by! It was just tooooo much. The girls LOVED it, but because we did so many other princess M&G's I would for sure skip this in the future. The food was not really good either. Considering they cater to kids, I'm just wondering why they would have a bowl of rice pudding, a loaf of dry apple cake and one small wedge of chocolate cake for everyone to fight over. The princesses were very sweet...it was just a mad house in there.
Dinner @ Tangierine Cafe - Chicken Shwarma Platter was delicious! The kids options were not that great here. Chicken nuggets were not the standard Disney nuggets. They were very processed looking. Thankfully, my kids like hummus!
Sun, 8/10
Lunch @ Starring Rolls - Ham sandwich was really good but I have to say I was disappointed in the butterfinger cupcake. Mine was freezing cold on the inside, so the middle just tasted like frozen frosting. It was neither ooey nor gooey. Not worth the calories for me.
Dinner @ Captain's Grille! We took my niece and nephew there for my sister's date night with her husband. I had a short rib beef stroganoff and again, it was awesome! Another great meal.
Mon, 8/11
Lunch @ Boardwalk Bakery sandwiches - Caprese and Roast Beef sandwiches. They were good...but didn't taste super fresh. This was one of our last days and to be honest, I think we were all just kinda "over" Disney food, if you know what I mean.
Dinner @ O'hana's - I go into O'hana's for the experience. The food is pretty good. The potstickers are amazing! But it;s our family tradition to go there on our last full day and it's always fun. Lapu Lapus and bread pudding...that's enough to keep me coming back!
Tuesday , 8/12
Breakfast @ Cape May Buffet - The fruit was great and the food was pretty standard stuff. Good character interaction though. We had a quieter table toward the back.
Snack @ Refreshment Post - CRONUT - where have these been all my life?!?!?!?!?!? We were all devastated that we had waited until our last day to try them. I had heard about them naturally, but I didn't think they would live up to the hype. Well they DO! They were hot and flakey and covered in cinnamon and sugar. Ugh....so good.
Lunch @ Boulangerie Patisserie les Halls - SO GOOD! We loved the old place too, but the set up is better now. Although, it would make more sense if they had one person designated to the savory items and another person in charge of desserts. It was confusing to other customers when they would jump ahead of me to order their dessert. The woman behind the counter would have to explain she was still helping me. Weird. Anyway, the ham avec frommage was so good and the chocolate mousse was rich and chocolatey. Afterward we got scoops over at L'Artisan des Glaces. The mint ice cream was really good! Refreshing and light. The waffle cone was really good too. Fresh and crispy. France for food just can't be beat.
Thanks for reading! Hope you all have fun on your upcoming trips to Disney!
