Hi folks,

We are new to collecting, and have amassed nearly 248 pins for trading while we are at Disney later this month. Whew!! We went to our first trading event at the Disney store, and my boys LOVED IT. LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT. They noticed that the 'hard-core' collectors all had display bags, which they coveted....however, we blew our 'pin budget' on pins, and a $50 bag for each of them was out of the question.

Instead, we stopped by Walmart and looked for some substitute solutions. What we found were CD storage cases. Some had black backings (like the pin bags), and the plastic sheaths for the CDs gave the pages enough 'body' to hold about 6-9 pins per page. They are smaller than the real pin bags, and zippered like them to prevent loss of 'loose' pins/backings. Cost was between $8 and $12. Granted, they aren't as polished as the real bags, but my boys were thrilled to be able to catalog their pins and flip the pages looking at them. Thought I'd share this tip.....sorry if it's old news, I tried to search for "Pin bag" and "CD storage", but couldn't get specific enough because of the 4 letter word limit. :)

Just another idea. I used zippered notebooks, walmart has some disney ones. I tkae sheets of felt to put into the notebook to put my pins on. These will hold allot more. I but a blank sheet of felt between each page of pins.

JudySue and I have gone to Office Depot and bought Mead 2" 3-ring binders with zippers. These are about $15 each, but very high quality. We then went to a coin dealer and bought pages with slots to hold 20 coins, which will also hold most pins not on cards. We also bought baseball card holders which will hold nine larger pins, or pins on cards.

The pins are put into the slots, and then pushed through the back so the pinback is on the outside of the sheet. We also bought a package of heavy (60#) colored paper and punched holes in it to use as spacers. Each pin is then very well protected, as it is in a plastic sleeve and there is a sheet of heavy paper in front 0of the sleeve to help protect from the back of the pin in front.

Our last purchase was for a heavy duty carrying strap from a luggage store. The particular books we bought have a slot behind the rings (and outside of the zippper) that we could slide the strap through. We cross-connected the two hoooks, and this will never come apart and the book can be carried over the shoulder.

Putting one of these together costs about $25.00. It will hold about 150 pins and you will be able to see the backs of the pins as well as the front, which is useful for limited and special pins.

WOW everyone.....GREAT IDEAS!
I especially like the CD case for kids, easier to carry in their little hands!
Sorry gotta run...off to find me some CD cases and binders! :p
