Quick cake question...

I'd like to know this too!!! Also does anybody know whether if you upgrade away from a basic Escape cake, you get to choose from the complete range of flavours and fillings or just the basic Escape choices?

Even if you have the Escape Cake you can have any flavour & filling.

It's DH's favorite flavor. When we asked about it at our PS we were told not to get it because we would be very disappointed. Apparently they can't make a very good red velvet cake!LOL It is something that if it is not done right can taste very bad. When done right it is heaven!LOL

It tastes like a mix between chocolate and vanilla...but tastes more chocolate to me. If you have $5 to spare just go buy some Duncan Hines or whatever mix and test it :thumbsup2

Ah thought so! I just went to double-check and I remembered correctly! Carrie (lurkyloo) had red velvet for her cake http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=23403098&postcount=137

More Disney inconsistency. :sad2: I would ask again.

Red velvet is sooo yummy, very moist and it does have a faint little chocolate flavor to it. It is amazing with a yummy cream cheese filling/icing.

Uh Oh! We just changed our cake to red velvet. GF Bakery is making it.

I guess the good thing is we just have a cake for cutting, so if it is horrible just me and DF have to eat it!

I had it when I was young and remember loving it. I remember it being very moist.

DF was skeptical...but he had a red velvet cupcake the other day and approved:thumbsup2

I believe Carrie's cake was made by the Boardwalk Bakery. Mine would be made by the Grand Floridian Bakery. Maybe that is the difference. Maybe the BW does a better job.:confused3

See this is what I am talking about. Look at the post above. Someone else is having red velvet and from the GF bakery. Disney is so wildly inconsistent with what it tells people; it's ridiculous.

If you want red velvet and it's DH's favorite flavor, I would push until you get it. It's not some wild, out there, exotic request. They sell the mix at grocery stores...a professional bakery should be able to hand it.

What else goes well with it?

I think we'll have one layer Red Velvet and one layer chocolate but haven't decided on fillings yet?

In the UK our wedding cakes are very different.

Red Velvet is my fav and going to be my anniversary tier. you usually do it with a cream cheese frosting (which we are doing got the anniversary tier). you can also do a vanillla buttercream which would be good. disney's red velvet cake i thought was very good and enjoyed it.

We had Red Velvet made by the GF in 2006 and it was amazing - they did such an awesome job. We actually requested they use a family recipe for the cake and frosting and they were able to accomodate our request.

I would not say Disney is inconsistent - I would say that cakes depend on the person tasting them. What I consider fabulous may not be something someone else would order. It's all opinion and typically Disney receives RAVE reviews on cakes served at receptions.

The Grand Floridian made our cake. The only wedding cakes that BoardWalk Bakery makes are for Escape weddings held at Sea Breeze Point.

Disney isn't telling people they *can't* have red velvet, they just recommend against it. And I have to agree - ours was just heavy and bland, not at all like the red velvet I've had from independent bakeries like SusieCakes or AuntieEm's in Los Angeles.

Too bad I didn't think to have the GF Bakery use Chipscinderelly's family recipe! :rotfl:

Maybe I won't have red velvet then, I liked the sound of it and the colour as red is the colour we are using.

What to do :confused3
