Hi, I've got points from my current use year (need to be used by August 2023 if not banked) that I won't be able to use by then. We are planning to go to WDW in December 2023 instead so I will need to bank these points in order to use them for that trip. If something happens and we have to cancel (I have a child recovering from a stem cell transplant so one never knows what can happen), the points will go back into the year I banked them into correct? I'm thinking they would be available to be used until the end of August 2024 then or am I wrong? This has been a horrendous year for our family so I really want to make sure I don't somehow screw something up! Thanks.

You are correct. :)

Will say a prayer for your child to recover fully and quickly.

Thank you so much! Any prayers are certainly appreciated. For a 17 year old who has hardly ever had a cold in his life, a cancer diagnosis out of the blue was quite a shock to all of us.

Sending you, your son, and family sincere best wishes. Your interpretation of the points use sounds correct to me. If you need to cancel, and doubt you will be able to use the points in the year you bank them to, you might consider renting them out to avoid losing any benefit from them. Maybe talk to one of the rental services about selling the points as a trip before you cancel it too. Don't hesitate to call member services for assistance.

Sending prayers. Just to clarify, if its an Aug UY, then they need to be used by end of July...if its a September UY, it is end of August...

Goodness, it is in fact a September use year - I’m all confused!

I might have to look into that as I also have some banked points that will be expiring at the end of August 2023 that we won’t be using. I lost the ones from the year before because I frankly could not deal with anything other than what was going on with our son at that time. I’m afraid I have zero experience with renting so don’t even know where to start. Guess I’ll have to do some research.

I’m so sorry for all that you, your son, & your family have been going through. I will certainly pray for you all!!

With several serious medical issues in our home, I get how easily it can turn your brain into mush!! Thankfully, in the case of excess points, there are brokers that will do (almost) all of the work for you. A few of the DVC resale brokers perform rental brokerage services, as well as David’s DVC Rentals. In most cases, you would be paid ~$16 per point for reservations made after the home priority period… so, even if you’ve only got 100 points getting ready to expire, that could equal roughly $1600! Not too bad for something that would otherwise just disappear from your dashboard 😉

Thank you! That seems pretty easy (wish I had looked into this before - we already lost all our points for 2020 and 2021 due to covid travel restrictions from Canada and then my son got sick). I definitely will give this some serious consideration!
