Queues that are outdoor and not shaded at WDW

Would anyone be able to help me out with a list of queues at each of the 4 WDW parks that are outdoors and/or not adequately shaded? I have a health condition that makes it very likely for me to pass out if I am in the heat for too long because I don't sweat and my blood pressure drops drastically, so I need to prioritize doing the outdoor/unshaded queues in the very early morning or at night, and I'd like to plan ahead. I'm going to Disney World next week. Thanks!

Almost all of them are indoors or shaded. The only one we've ever had trouble with are Aladdin carpets in mk. Its shaded but when the sun hits at the wrong angle it doesn't help much.

Another thing to consider is that a queue may have a canopy or other shade cover, but that is only going to shade during certain times of the day. Also, the heat reflects off the pavement even if where you are standing is not in the sun.

Because WDW is in Florida, the majority of the queues are at least partly indoors or covered to protect from rain. But any queue has the capability of being outdoors if it overflows the indoor section. For example, Space Mountain has a nice long indoor queue, but often the line spills out into Tomorrowland as far as the Peoplemover (which also has an outdoor queue). The same thing happens at Buzz very often. Pirates also has a long indoor queue, but often spills over into a covered, but hot, courtyard type area.

There are some rides at MK, like Jungle Cruise or Haunted Mansion, that the queue is completely outdoors, and partially covered. A few, like Carousel of Progress, are outdoors and not covered, but occasionally shaded by nearby buildings. All of these will get hot during the day.

Only you know how much heat you can bear before you feel ill. I would try to schedule sit down meals and theater type shows and attractions during the middle of the day and leave the outdoor queue situations (whether covered or not) for the early morning and evening. That is what I have to do, as I also faint in the heat.

I think the worst ones are:

Speedway

Peoplemover

Astro Orbitor

Barnstormer

Aladdin Flying Carpets

Triceratop Spin

Then there are others that have shade but you may still feel the Heat like Slinky, Alien Saucers and Jungle Cruise.

And then there are others that if the line is long enough, you will have spots in which you will be outdoor. The safari is one that if they open the extended queue, then you will be outdoors for a long time.

This is a good suggestion. My concern though is that people in line will be annoyed at me having an open umbrella in a crowded space, especially if there's no rain.
I wouldn't worry so much about others if you need to be out of the sun, you need to keep yourself safe. They can create distance from you. Fortunately most queues are covered!

Sounds like I'll need to do Jungle Cruise and Haunted Mansion in the early morning or night time. Thanks!

This is helpful, thanks!

Bring a smaller one, and most people won't have an issue. When we were there two weeks ago, we saw many walking with smaller umbrellas for shade. A large golf umbrella will be hard to carry and take up too much space.

Thanks everyone! I just ordered a UV umbrella, and I appreciate those who gave specific information about queues. Ideally, I wouldn't be going in summer at all, but other factors didn't allow for a different time of year.

(sorry I'm late to the party) Dont forget your other cooing strategies: Wear long-sleeve rash guards, use cooling towels and possibly even a neck fan (the kind that go around your neck and are hands free) and carry water with you - you can get free ice water at any of the quick service food locations.

If you need a place to sit unexpectedly, you could consider using a Rollator - it's basically a walker with wheels that has a built in seat (and usually a storage basket of some kind). They are easy to push, lightweight, will fold up for travel (and fly free on any domestic airline as medical equipment). You can even have one drop shipped to your hotel at Disney World, or you can also rent one (although it might be cheaper to buy...)

I understand; I am heat and sun intolerant, and so I am always on the lookout for ways to be cool(er) at WDW! We have a thread running in the Community section here called Staying Cool This Summer, and if you have any ideas or info, please share them with us there too! 🙂

Thanks for all the info!

Depends on how long you can tolerate full sun…most queues have shade but either not starting til closer to the entrance and/or there are gaps in the shade you could get stuck in. There a ton of partly outdoor queues.

MK: Jungle Cruise if it’s very busy, Aladdin, Pirates if it’s a busy day, BTMRR, Tianna when it opens unless they added shade to the first part, possibly the first part of Peter Pan especially first thing in the morning, Enchanted Tales with Belle, Mermaid if its busy, Dumbo if it extends out of the building, Barnstormer, Speedway, Carousel of Progress, Peoplemover, Buzz if its out the door.

HS: Rise and MF:SR if out the door, Slinky, MMRR if out the door, Tower of Terror, possibly Star Tours depending on time of day and exactly how long the outdoor queue is.

I don’t do AK anymore, nor do I ride Aerosmith, the saucers, or SM.

Epcot- Figment if out the door, Nemo if out the door, Spaceship Earth frequently. Not sure about Frozen or Remy. Epcot is actually the best probably for queues though the distance between places is long and many walking paths have little shade.

I can stand about 15 minutes when the temperature is in the 90s, 30 minutes when it's in the 80s, and an hour or so when it's in the 70s. Your info is helpful, thanks!

Toy Story Land in DHS is hotter than the surface of the sun. There's very little shade in that whole area and just going in there when it's hot just turns me into a puddle. The line queues are ok for Midway Mania and Alien Swirling Saucers but not Slinky Dog as much. I was in the Slinky line when it was threaded outside in the sun and they even set up someone with a drink cart in the middle of the queue it was so hot. That line can easily be over an hour so this is a good ride to try to minimize wait times with, ride at night (really pretty ride at night) or just avoid it lol.

Those UV umbrellas are great and I highly recommend a long sleeve cover-up that is UPF 50+. I have one from amazon that is like a white open front cardigan style with long sleeves - inexpensive - and I wear it over a t-shirt and I don't find it makes me any hotter.

They also sell sun umbrellas on amazon that have a water bottle attached and it's powered somehow to mist water on you underneath the umbrella. They aren't cheap but I'm curious if they work!
