Queue re-entry for child

I was told that queue re-entry was the best accessibility option for my autistic child and they sent me a link about it. I have some follow up questions about utilizing it that I emailed to disability services but I received a pre scripted response that had nothing to do with what I was asking. I have followed up but still no response so I’m hoping anyone here that has done this might help give me insight so we can better prepare.

It will be mom, dad and 8 year old. When my child needs to leave the line, does one parent have to stay behind? And if we all leave, how does that work? On the information they gave me it says "If you are traveling alone or with party members who can’t be left alone in the queue, please contact Accessibility Services prior to your visit.” I tried contacting them about it but obviously see above. So what are we supposed to do with that?

Reading it over it seems like queue re-entry is for shorter breaks? If we need to take an extended break from the line before my child is ready, will that be an issue?

And I did ask the CM while I was on the chat about how to exit the line. I had already explained one of the issues is dealing with close quarters with people and I was assured that the CMs at the ride entry will know how to accommodate a way to leave the line without needing to go through groups of people to get to an exit. Does anyone have any experience with how this works?

Also as a side note, since when have they interviewed children? In past interviews they would ask my kid basic questions like how old are you or favorite movie. When they asked to talk to my kid I assumed that was it. No! They were asking about how her disability affects her waiting in line and what she does to help. She froze and shut down but the lady kept repeating the questions at her and was kind of rude about it. I just told my daughter it was ok if she can’t answer and moved the interview along. I was caught off guard and thought that was pretty inappropriate. Has anyone had this kind of experience with the new interview process?

It sounds like you applied for DAS but were denied. If you expect to have to leave the line, the procedure should be to ask the CM before entering (if you remember) or upon exiting (if not) what to do if you need to leave the line. They will likely tell you that one parent stays and the other parent exits with the child. When parent 1 gets to the LL merge point, they call parent 2 and parent 2 and child are able to rejoin through the LL. At least that seems to be the standard operating procedure.

I’m not sure what you would do if you expect to be significantly longer than the actual wait time. If it’s highly likely that will happen perhaps mention that to the CM as they may tell you to have both parents exit, one helps sort out the return time while the other deals with the meltdown.

But as always your experience may vary depending on the ride, crowds, etc.

Good luck!
