Questons about parking at RPR???

I have Kelly Monoghan's book, Universal Orlando 2007. In his book, he states that RPR has less parking spots than the other two resorts and that it can be hard to find an open spot, he suggests that you can park in the rear of the hotel in the convertion center parking area. Also, one last option would be to spring for the $3 more for valet parking (I think it costs $3 more--correct???). We will be there next Sunday, arriving about 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon, what would be our best option? Knowing my hubby I don't think he'll spring for the valet parking, but how difficult will it be for him to find an open parking spot and how far of a walk would it be back to the hotel?

Hard Rock I believe has the least amount of parking, then RPR, then next PBH. Durring last summer one time when we returned to the hotel I had to wait about 15 minutesfor a spot to open up. Self parking is now $15.95 per night and valet is $21.95 per night. I told my wife if there is no self parking this year then I will have the valet do it. But the next morning I will get the car out of valet and return to self parking if spots are open. I would say you will have to wait until you arrive to make that desicion.

I normally pull up under and just past the hotel valet and let everyone out with our rolling luggage. Normally a valey person will come up to you and greet you. I tell them I'm going to self park. Sometimes they will ask for last name to I guess record it. Then I more the car to self parking. There is a gate like at the airport that will issue you a ticket. That ticket is for day guest so you can just ignore it or bring it to the checkin counter. Because your room key later on will be used instead to leave and re enter the parking. Thats how they keep track of your parking.

Parking is a bit ridiculous at RPR. However, there is plenty of parking behind the hotel in that convention lot. It's not too bad of a walk. It's closer than Citywalk is.

Bluer, thanks for the info, it was very helpful. I just talked to DH and he said 'no way am I paying for valet', but I have to agree with him, because once we park, we don't plan on taking our car out again until we leave. We are just going to enjoy our five nights, inside the parks, citywalk and the resorts.

Where do the valets take your car to at RPH? Is there a reserved section in the RPH lot, or is it elsewhere? I am not fond of valets here in the city taking my car several blocks away to park it.

I have not had to use the valet yet, but I beleive the valet parking is just beside the regular parking. I do not allow valet to park my own car. But we rent a minivan for our summer trips so I really don't care if they have to park it. I will still try to avoid the valet due to the price plus a tip.

Then if you don't plan on leaving just give it a few if there is no parking or park out back. I have to tell you the only time there was no parking was last summer around July 4th. It happened only once and I just waited for a spot to open in the main parking lot. I could of parked behind the hotel but I was in no rush. Also this happened when returning from one of the Disney parks arounf 9PM. Every other time we have been there (Alot) there is always parking.

i never do valet in chi town either just for that reason.....


Bluer is correct about the parking.
hrh has the least amount of spaces.

follow bluer's suggestions and you will do fine.
switch the car to self park while you are there.


i heard rph changed the system and became stricter on the parking at their hotel. with the gate, people from the park area won't be able to get in and park there instead of the garage.

i have seen and read some trip reports where in the past a guest could not find an open spot so valet helped out.
they parked the guest's car without the valet charge.


i used to rent cars in orlando but stopped that 4 years ago.
since i don't leave universal once i am there, i go with the car service.
what i was paying for hotel parking, was 3/4 of what i pay for car service.
