Questions re: availability

Hi!

Partner finally gave us the go ahead to look into purchasing DVC we are from the UK and head to WDW for 14 days at a time. I have read through most of the info posts etc but I am wondering if anybody can reassure me that there is availability for 14 night stays at least in off peak seasons at the 7 month mark? I know obviously that SSR/OKW tend to have a broader scope for availability but I am abit concerened that we will have difficulty getting anywhere for 14 nights.

Buy at your favorite resort(s) to guarantee availability. Anywhere else you may or may not always get what you want.

IMO all year is peak season for DVC with something like a 98% occupancy. Disney does it's best to increase attendance, just think the time before all of the events, days, runs, parities, sports, meet & greets, stars wars, and avatar.

Getting 14 days in one resort at seven months out will be difficult. You really need to book it at 11 months out to guarantee it. BUT, you can't even book 14 days at once at 11 days out. The best you can do is book seven nights, then add the next seven days, one day at a time, to get your 14 nights at your home resort. It will be the same at seven months out when you book a non-home resort. And then it becomes harder. Unless you book seven nights , wait a week and then book the other seven nights in a different resort.

Off-peak crowds or off-peak DVC? Big difference...

As a rule, 14 days day one at 7 months out (reserve 7 days then add to it) shouldn't be difficult at SSR, AKV or SSR. Other than that, it might be tough, esp without moving. Unless there is an off property resort you're set on, why not buy on property to get 11 month window. Maybe SSR if you're OK with the more available resorts. Even at 11 months out, BWV standard, BLT standard, VGF, BCV and the like may be tough for 14 days in a single stretch.

There's a difference between the resorts being full and how fast they fill up. It's a "speed" versus "acceleration" scenario. Yes, everything will be full on the date you arrive. Whether there's availability the day, month, or 10 months prior is the question. From late January though mid-September, there should be plenty of availability at 7 months.

But the speed of fill up is dependent on when members book. Who knows if they will decide to book faster than in the past. The only way to guarantee availability is to own your favorites and book at 11 months.

True but in my world I don't want to take the chance that booking at 7 months gives you and I don't want to tell others that they will probably get what they want at 7 months if it isn't a sure thing.

I guess we just look at things differently.

Those options come with a price tag, often one that is not reasonable unto itself. And even owning at a given resort doesn't guarantee options, esp for the most difficult to reserve anyway. Only the fixed week options do that and only for the week and time owned.
