Questions on the waitlist rules

I am confused on part of the new waitlist rules. I understand that if you are waitlisted for a night or more, and it comes thru it is automatically booked, and any other waitlists are cancelled. However, what if the waitlists cover different days - but overlap? For example, if I have reservations and want to add a day at the beginning of a trip that was not available, I go on waitlist. However, at the same time, I would really prefer a different resort for the stay, should it come available. I waitlist the entire stay - including the first day that I have also waitlisted for the resort with the ressies. If the single night comes available at the resort with the existing reservations, does this automatically cancel the other waitlist? If so, Why? The waitlist have one day in common, but cover different periods. Does that make sense?
If this is how it works, can you call and reactivate the second waitlist request? or are you put at the bottom of the list?

If it were me, I'd call and ask MS - logically, what you say makes sense to me. (If you are just seeking info and not requesting an actual transaction, it's best to call in the late afternoon later in the week. It's less busy and you are more likely to get a CM willing to take the time to explain things).

That said, I suspect the answer depends on how the CM sets things up when you ask to waitlist. No one here has any specific details on how the new waitlist system actually works.

I think we have a very similar situation. We've booked 3 nights right at the 11 month window for New Years (12/30/07 - 01/02/08 in a Preferred View BWV 2 BR). At the 7 month mark, we called (didn't have enough BW points and had to wait til the 7 month mark to use our OKW points) and were put on the waitlist for our final 2 nights (1/2 - 1/4).

I am also on the waitlist for the entire 5 night stay for a Standard View 2 bedroom (we would cancel the Preferred View and take the Standard View). As the CM explained it to me - whichever waitlist comes in first, the other will be cancelled. I asked her if the other waitlist could be reactivated and she said we could go on the list again, but we would be at the bottom.

I'm really worried something may go wrong with this and may call and cancel the 5 night for the SV. I think it's impossible to get anyway, and I won't have to worry with having this New Years ressie messed up.

Good Luck with your situation.

I am not sure that you are really at risk in your situation. Either the 2 PV days come thru first, and the 5 day SV is cancelled, or the 5 SV days come thru first and your 2 PV waitlist is cancelled. In either case, you would have 5 nights in the same category.

If your concern is that they also cancel your 3 PV nights if the 5 nights come thru so you can use those points for the new reservation, I think this is something that can be added to your waitlist request. For many people, they have no option but to use the existing reservation points for the waitlisted reservation.

Best of luck -- Suzanne
