Questions on pool/spa when renting a house

Just a few questions. We're renting a house in Emerald Island for the first time in late July/early August. The home has a pool. My questions are:

1. Is there any reason to get spa heat? We have the option of pool & spa heat or just spa heat (cheaper) but the owner says that most people feel that it's just not necessary at that time of year and is just TOO hot.

2. Can you use the pools if it's raining out? I'm guessing if there's lightning, obviously not. I'm thinking if it's raining though, there will be water coming into the pools. Is this okay? Do you need to keep the pool covered during rain or when you're not using it? How much care do you have to do for the pool?

Thanks!

Sure you can use a pool in the rain, but like you said, not a good idea if there's lightning.

I guess for the pool heat, you definitely wouldn't need it in July/Aug...the spa is a hot tub though...and it won't be any warmer than the pool would be if you don't heat it, so if you want it to be piping hot, get the spa heat! :thumbsup2

Most homes have regular weekly pool maintenance services, they come out and clean the pool, add any chemicals or water as needed / etc., a guest should not have to do any maintenance at all to the pool, other than possibly putting the hose in and adding a little water if it looks low to you.

I agree. There is no maintanince needed for the pool. There is someone that comes around weekly to keep the pool clean. If there would be any sort of problem you should call the managment company and they will send someone out.

We own homes in Emerald Island and when I go there I never have to do anything to the pool except turn on the spa. By the way, you can have the bubbles in the spa and not the heat. I would agree, in August, I would think you would not need the pool or spa heat. The spas get very hot with the heat on. We were there in November and it got so hot with the spa heat on, that I had to get out. Of course you can control how hot you want the spa.
My husband just had it way too hot for me.

Have a great trip!!

I was just wondering. This summer we got one of those small backyard pools and I was amazed by the amount of work it took. It did say to always keep it covered in rain and if there was a large amount of rain that you had to add extra chemicals so I guess that's what made me think of it.

One of the hotels we used to go to had an outdoor pool with a portion of it with seats and the jets for the adults while the kids were running around in the rest of it. I'm thinking this is what the spa would be like without the heat, and would probably be great in the afternoon when it was really hot. I was just wondering about in the evening after a long day at the park if it wouldn't be nice to relax in a hot spa to soothe the sore muscles. But the house owner said the same things - that people have complained that it's just too hot and uncomfortable, even on a lower settings.

Do you need to cover the pool between uses, overnight, or not at all? I'm thinking it's more critical during the winter months when you're using the pool heat but don't know in the summer. I wasn't sure if the pools required daily maintenance, but I guess it doesn't sound like it.

Thanks everyone for your help!

Now the one home we rented did need the pool to be skimmed almost daily. It did have the complete screen enclosure- but for some reason there was some tiny debris almost daily in the pool that needed to be cleaned out- like grass (which we didn't use the yard so we didn't track it in).

The pool blanket is needed only during the winter months.

Pool heat for the summer months can be way to much.

If you shold want it after you are at the home it can be turned on in those months it will take no time at all for it to reach optimal temperature.

Personally I would not pay extra for it.
