How many of you have DVC contracts with more than one use year? Can you tell me the in and the outs of banking/borrowing/trading to each? Has it made it difficult for you? I am just thinking ahead for other add-ons. If this has been asked before and someone knows of a great thread please point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance!

I have two different use years, Feb and June. It works OK for us but I wish they were the same. From a banking, borrowing or reservation stand point you just have to work them individually. The 11 month/7 month window applies to each - I can't make reservations at BCV (one of my contracts) 11 months out and use any of my second contract, which has a June use year. If possible, keep one use year - just makes it easier!

It does create more accounting, is more complicated and difficult (but not impossible) to make a single reservation from both contracts. The main advantage is if you go different times of the year you can potentially chose which account to use for a given trip giving a certain amount of protection from cancelation and banking issues.

Why make you live harder than it needs to be. Select one UY and stick with it. :goodvibes

Except for some extra diligence with banking deadlines, we've had no problems with 4 Use Years at 2 different resorts. We have never lost any points and have used the flexibility to our advantage with our reservations.

I would not consider multiple Use Years or multiple resorts to be a disadvantage at all - and in most situations, the flexibility can be a great advantage.

You're smarter than most of us so your opinion doesn't count. :goodvibes

I have a Feb BLT UY and (will have) a Dec GCV UY. We are actually planning on using the GCV points in CA in May-June, and the BLT points throughout all DVC resorts in FL. I think that since they are so close it will be easier to manage the banking (not likely) and borrowing (more likely). Anything I'm missing?

We have two use years at two different resorts. It does allow us some protection against canceling a reservation outside of the banking window. The bookkeeping issues really aren't that bad, they were much easier to deal with using Cask Bill's tools, but a spreadsheet will also work.

We have 2 Use Years for our 3 Home resorts. It does take a bit of accounting with the banking/borrowing/transferring. However, it is manageable. As long as you can keep track of each one, it can be advantageous as far as having the ability to cancel and still be within the limits of banking.

However, if I had a choice, I would choose to have all in one Use Year. We always seem to be borrowing anyways!;)

The only reason why we had to have a second Use Year was because we wanted to purchase a resale since the resort was no longer available from DVC.

Definitely. Generally, I book two reservations per year and one is almost always a combination of the two Use Years.

It does take some time for them to go into the other Membership and link the two reservations. And at times, we have had problems with the reservations during our trip.

For some reason, the resort computers seem to think we are checking out and receive the automated calls from the front desk about how much they hope we enjoyed our stay and if we needed assistance departing in the middle of our stay. Other times, we had problems with the DDP. Apparently, they can never link those, even if I pay for the full amount at check in. Inevitably, my husband ends up paying cash for our breakfast and end up waiting in line to "fix" the problem at the Concierge desk.:sad2: It does get tiresome after a while. And this is after (since I have gone through this often, I always bring it up at check in) I was reassured that this would not happen.:sad2:
