Questions on Day Trip to Ft Wilderness

We're staying at Animal Kingdom Villas in Sept and really want to take a day off from the parks and check out Ft. Wilderness for the first time. We have a 4 year old boy and 2 year old girl. Here are my questions:
1) Should we rent a golf cart for the day? If we do, would there be somewhere to store our stroller?
2) How is the best way to get there? Is it a long way to where we'd get dropped off and where we could pick up a golf cart?
3) Activity suggestions for little ones?

Renting a golf cart (if available) is near the Outpost where you would get off the bus traveling from AK. There are internal buses that can take you wherever you'd like to go in FW, so that would be a personal decision. As for storing your stroller, I don't know of any place available for that.

From your resort, probably the best way to go would be to first go to AK, then take the FW bus straight to campground.

Not sure there'd be many activities for that age during the day except for a playground near the Settlement Area. There is a great movie at night around a fire where you can roast marshmallows at the Meadows Trading Post. Haven't had 'little ones' in awhile, so maybe someone else can chime in if there are other activities for that age group I don't remember.

1) Should we rent a golf cart for the day? If we do, would there be somewhere to store our stroller? (Not necessary --> but would be fun! All the activities can be done from where the busses drop you off [to be clear, the FW busses inside the fort not the ones that drop you off at the fort]

2) How is the best way to get there? Is it a long way to where we'd get dropped off and where we could pick up a golf cart? (as the PP said, golf carts are at the outpost. As for how to get there, I would recommend heading to the MK first, then taking the boat to FW. As many of the activities are at the landing)

There are tons of activities
1) Pony rides (My children loved this)
2) Canoeing (fun for parents and children)
3) swimming
4) hay ride
5) Campfire sing along
6) Fishing
6) etc.

If you are making a day of it, I would also recommend the HDDR. My son was 2 when he first saw it.. and he LOVED it.

1) Pony rides (My children loved this)

1) All good ideas.
2) Except, no swimming allowed for guests not staying at Fort Wilderness.

. . . lake swimming is not permitted at all

The horse barns and pony rides might appeal to the kids.

Down at the lake/beach end of the Fort is Pioneer Hall with the Hoop Dee Doo and Trails End restaurant. But on the other side of Pioneer Hall (not the lake side) is a corral with ponies and a few other small farm animals. The Pony rides are about $5 and you the parent lead the pony around the inside of the corral. That would probably work for the 4-year old, the 2 year old might be too young.

The horse barn next to the corral has stalls for all the horses used at MK, parades, etc and you can walk into the barn to look at them.

Thanks everyone! I called and reserved a golf cart today. It sounds like there will be plenty of activities for us to do!
