We are needing airfare for 5, 3 ad 2 kids Dec 2-9 of this year and our booking window opens this weekend. We live in Chicago area and can fly out of O'Hare or Midway. What is my best option? Book early or wait until southwest airfares some out?

Thanks.

Welcome to the big 'gamble'!!! I usually book as soon as the window opens. I fly out of Boston, so have flown with Delta/Song into MCO. But, I'm traveling in both Oct and then again in Dec....still haven't booked the Oct flight and don't know what I'm going to do about the Dec one yet. I think I may wait until I see what JetBlue does. Delta/Song usually stays pretty competitive when JB first opens their window. Then, SW will open theirs. It's a huge dilemna for me. I figure I'll go with the best rate, at the earliest time I can...that will be when JetBlue opens...that's when I'll book for Oct and Dec.
Good luck.

My family is traveling around the same time as you and we live in Chicagoland too. We're going to WDW/DCL from Nov 30-Dec 7. I plan on waiting until SWA comes out with their air. They always seem to have the best prices. Plus, Midway is more convenient to fly out of than O'Hare. We fly to MCO at least once a year and have used SWA every time except once, we used ATA and that trip was a nightmare! It wasn't worth the $75 we saved vs. SWA.
