Questions from newbie making first ressies

My home resort is SSR, March use year, own 185 pts., no points in 2004.....Is the following correct???

185 March 2005 pts minus 46 pts for June 2005 travel (make ressie in Oct. 2004). This leaves 139 pts in 2005 which I bank to 2006 when I make a ressie (for May 2006 travel) in June 2005. Add 167 pts from 2006 to the 139 for a total of 306 pts needed for the ressie. That leaves 18 pts in 2006. In Dec 2005 make ressie for Nov. 2006 travel (239 pts needed). Use 18pts left in 2006, borrow 185 pts from 2007 and rent for transfer 36 pts. I have to rent 36 pts from an SSR owner with a March use year. Points will have to be rented and banked to 2006 before Nov. 30, 2005 (banking deadline). If I rent 47 or more points they must be banked by Aug. 31, 2005. Banked or borrowed pts are directed to the year of travel, not to the year in which the ressie is being made. The plan after this is to travel every other year (or add on as needed).

I followed you right up until that last reservation. Everything you said before that is correct.

I've never rented points to transfer, but I don't think you will need to rent the same UY. The points would just need to be available when the trip would take place.

So I think you have everything basically correct, with that small caveat.

You are starting off in borrowing mode, you need more points, or plan on less trips. Think of an add on rather than renting, in the long run you will be better off. You may plan to go every other year, but once you have gone DVC, you will get hooked.
