Hello -
I've been reading these boards for a couple of weeks, this is my first post.

I've almost convinced my wife that we need to buy-in to the DVC...most likely at AKV.

I have 2 questions, I'd appreciate any feedback -

1. If we normally travel in Oct/Nov - which is the best use month? Sept?
2. We probably won't be travelling until 2008 - can I rent my 1st years points to help offset the cost of the purchase? Do people rent yr. 1 points, or is that frowned upon?

Thanks for your help -

Frankly, unless you are in the habit of canceling reservations close to the trip, use year will have little or no effect on how or when you travel. Use year is only important when you cancel, to make sure you have enough time to still bank those points.

If you buy points with a 2007 use year and you don't intend to travel during that use year (remember that many use years with a 2007 date will go far into 2008), you can bank those points into the next use year and have double points to work with.

it does get confusing - we keep looking at mock vacations to see how many points we would use at what time and i keep thinking calendar year and think oh we'll have to borrow points from next year - you have to get in the mind set of physical year instead of calendar year.

If you're planning on buying at AKV, depending on when you buy, your points may actually be from 2008, not 2007. IIRC, after a certain date, buyers will not be given '07. I would call up the sales center (or your guide if you've gotten one) and ask about this. It could affect your decision as to when to join.
