Questions for those who have experience introducing cats? (old question) July Walnut health update!!!

Oh Farro, I'm so sad to read this update, poor Walnut...will be thinking good thoughts for him, that they can still help him through this

Have any of the vets he's seen suggested all the meds he's on are what is causing the constipation and looking sick? It sounds like the poor kitty is so drugged up he can't do anything.

Constipation started before all the meds. They said liver disease is reason he's having trouble processing sedation from previous enemas, but that also needs medications to try and fight.

So sorry. I know how bad you feel. Hang in there.

We're about to lose both of them. :( How does this happen? I asked if it was something we did. But I was so crazy careful with them. Locks on cabinets, doors to rooms shut when we aren't home, no plants, etc... They had the best life and gave us the best life. I can't understand.

Try not to beat yourself up. I know it’s impossible right now, though. You have done more than many people would. You’re a good cat mom.

You didn't do anything wrong, they were both beautiful and obviously well loved. Don't blame yourself.

You have given those kitties the most amazing enriched lives full of love. Even if their lives were shorter than others, it sounds like they had nothing but devoted attention and worship from their Humans. ;)

I am so sorry it has come to this. You must be in shock.

I am going to keep sending healing thoughts for Walnut and for you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your babies. It's possible that when Walnut lost his sibling, that caused all this to start up. We had litter mates as well. They were much older but when our female passed, our male became very ill only a couple of weeks later. He developed an infection that he just couldn't kick. The vet said it was likely because he had lost his sister and he was so upset by it.

Hugs, hope Walnut is ok.

Has he been hospitalized for IV fluids and supportive care yet or has this all been in-home treatment?

If they do narrow it down to FIP, I’m very sorry. It’s such a nasty disease. :sad1:

Walnut back in with vet. Too sick to go under anesthesia for clean out/feeding tube.
Medications to treat inflammation don't seem to be working.
Trying mild sedation and one more enema and clean out to see if it helps him turn the corner.
If no poop today after enema and still no improvements, will be put to sleep tomorrow.
If poop today from enema, but not able to product any tomorrow with no improvements will be put to sleep Saturday.

Now thought process is that being Cashew's pancreas was attacked and inflammation all over and now Walnut's liver attacked and inflammation all over - FIP presenting in an untypical fashion.

Oh, Farro... I am so, so sorry. FIP is a monster and so difficult to diagnose, much less treat. Don't torment yourself. It was nothing you did wrong. If anything, you did things right: giving Cashew and Walnut the most loving home they could know for their time on this earth. That was truly a gift and a blessing. Know that and hold on to that. God gave both of them to you because He knew you would love them best. And that love is so precious. You and Walnut will be in our thoughts and prayers tonight.

This would be my suspicion. They had an incredible bond, and were no doubt better for it. But I wouldn't be surprised if the loss played a part in Walnut's downfall.

HE POOPED!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banana::banana::banana:

They called and he pooped 2 harder ones overnight, then on his own this morning giant soft ones!!! Hes also eating dry food on his own!!!

Vet said this is a much better outcome than she expected and she is cautiously optimistic. She said much more alert this morning.

We can bring him home today. We aren't getting hopes up, but at least something. IF he does okay this week (no setbacks) we bring him back in 7 days to check liver levels. He's on metronidazole, prednisolone and a cocktail of liver meds. Poor guy. They said if this is triaditis/IBD, he may be one of those cats who will have to be on a low dose of metro or pred for rest of life.

Thanks to everyone who commented, read/liked my posts, offered advice and good wishes, I really appreciate it. :)
