Questions For Renting Dvc Points

I have a few questions about renting points from a DVC member.

1. If I decide to rent from a member, will I be contacted from the DVC about my reservation?

2. Will I receive a reservation in the mail from DVC and will it be in my name. Will this come straight from DVC?

3. Once I make a reservation and pay the owner, can the owner cancel the reservation without me knowing? Will DVC contact me if my reservation has been cancelled by the owner?

I have other question but will ask these for now. I would appreciate any input.
 
Welcome to the DIS! :) Be sure to read the informational threads at the top of the Rent/Trade Board in addition to asking rental questions right here on the DVC Operations Board.

1) - No, you would be renting directly from the member - not from Disney. Disney will have no part in the process and will not become involved in assisting with the reservation. All aspects of the reservation will be handled thru the member only.

2) - No, any correspondence will be sent to the member. There should be a confirmation letter in your name, but it will be sent to the member - who would need to forward a copy to you.

3) - Yes, the member will be in full control of the reservation until you check-in at the resort - including cancellation of the reservation. You will have no contact from DVC in the event there is any change in the status of the reservation.

Rentals require a level of trust between both parties. Be sure you have that sense from anyone you wish to deal with. Check their past posts, get their mailing address and telephone, have a written contract spelling out all aspects of your arrangement and ask for (and check) references.
 
Thanks so much for the info. I guess you have to have alot of trust in the person that you rent from. I will continue to read threads to get more info.
