We did the whole autograph book last time we were in DL and honestly I don't know what I'd do with it once we got home. I know my kids will want autographs (especially at the character breakfast) and I want to take a pillowcase for each of them for autographs.

The problem is my DH thinks it will be a pain, it's not stiff so it would be hard to sign, he doesn't want to carry it around all day, etc. Anyone have any ideas to convince him? I thought maybe carrying it in the zipper bag you buy it in with a small piece of cardboard to make it stiff?

I mean it's a pillowcase, not a brick :rotfl: Please help me convince him!

I'm in the process of getting some t-shirts signed for my cousins kids...
I've found it easiest for the characters to sign if I hold it, and stretch it tight for them, instead of laying it down for them to sign.

What a great idea :goodvibes

I would have thought the best way to do this would be to just use it at character meals. That way, you can simply spread it out (or even just a small part of it) onto the table, which provides a readily available hard surface that you don't need to carry around.

Having said that, you may struggle with certain characters. Pluto springs to mind as he always has to sit the book on his nose so he might struggle to reach down to the table :confused3

I made a pillowcase with princesses on it for my DD birthday at the park. She had all the characters sign it. I bought an inexpensive embroidery/crosstitch type loop at Walmart in the medium size. You place the pillowcase in between the 2 loops and turn the little screw to make it tight. I carried in my backpack all day and it was easy for the characters to sign it as the material was stretched tightly.

Also, one year before halloween I made a trick-or-treat bag (dyed a canvas bag orange and decorated it) and we took it with us on our September trip. Had all the characters sign it and she still uses it for halloween.

We did a pillow case on our last trip. Like you, how many autograph books do one person need? It was no problem. I was actually doing two- one for DD and one for DMIL. THAT part was a little tricky. But I had a cardboard square that fit in a plastic shopping bag. The bag kept it clean and the card board worked great as a "desk" for them to sign on. I like the PPs idea of the needle hoop, too. We kept the middle of the pillow case empty. When we got home, I took a 5x7 photo of us infron tof the castle. I made a copy onto the tshirt transfer paper and ireoned it onto the pillow case. It really turned out cute!
One word of advice,
-keep it in a plastic bag with your markers in it.
-use multi colored pens
- Tape a piece of paer in the spot where you want your photo so characters will signe away from it.
-Move the board around so that the sutographs are spread out somewhat evenly

This next trip, I bought a canvas bag that looks like the cool Land's End/ LLBean bags. There is a spot on the front to put a photo. AND I can just carry it around the park with the pens inside of it!

Excellent idea!!! I was trying to make my girls a halloween autograph book for next weekend's trip. But I am also turning canvas drawstring backpacks into trick or treat bags (thanks to the lovely dis-igners in Creative Disigns). Maybe we'll just have the characters sign the back of the bag!! The only hang up I see is what to do during the trick or treat party......hmmm brainstorming to do.

We just had a family trip to DL in September and did the pillowcases for all the kids, there were a total of 10 kids in our group. The characters all thought that the idea was AWESOME!!:cool1:

Dont forget to take Fabric pens, found ours at Joann's bought both the pastels and the brights, the brights worked better than the pastels. They were too light. We too used a Embroidery hoop for each of the kids and just rmade sure that we had a empty place after each character signed so that we were ready to go!

Another thing that my cousin and I did was take pictures of the kids with the character and when we got baxk, printed them on transfer paper and placed them in the empty areas around the pillow case...Now they have a great autograph momento plus a photo memory keepsake!!

Dont forget to have the kids write their own name on the pillowcase edge or somewhere to identify each others, helps to keep track of whos is what!!

The other cousin that went thought that it would be a bother but she is now glad that she went along with the idea..her kids love it!:cheer2:

Are these pens like sharpies? I love the idea but it would need to be washable.

thanks!

There is no point in using washable markers on cloth...you couldn't wash it then....:confused3

These markers are washable and are made for fabric so they will stay the same color of the pen. Kind of like Sharpies but better because they donot "bleed" into the fibers.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding :confused3...I'm thinking washable as in "I only buy washable markers for my kids, so if they color on my table it will wash off".... Fabric markers can be washed as in "if I wash them they won't come off in the washing machine"....

Thanks for the idea, this makes so much sense, but I just hadn't thought of it.

My DH and I reached a compromise, we will take the pillowcase to the character breakfast and the autograph book around the park. When we get home I will copy the signatures from the park onto the pillowcases. I won't be quite the same, but we don't plan on waiting in line for too many characters in the park anyway.

Thanks for the ideas!

Oh, I could see where that would be confusing:rotfl:....Yes they are washable...meaning that they will be permanent pens on the fabric that can be washed without removing....

I think it's awesome! Get them to do it in a sharpie, then you can trace over the signatures in fabric pen when you get home ( idd this when dd was little and we met The Wiggles). I don't think it will be harder to carry than an autograph book if you carry it the way you describe.

The first year we went to WDW dd loved princesses and had a book with all of the princesses in it. We took that and got them all to sign by their pictures.

A friend of mine made her kids tote bags with a picture of a character and the kids names on it and had them sign those.

This sounds like a good idea. About how big was the hoop? Did you have to move it around a lot to make room for autographs? :confused3 Just trying to get a visual on it.. . :)

I would get atleast a 12 inch hoop. You will have to move it around to guide the characters to sign where you want them. Also, bring a plastic bag to keep it in. You will not believe all the gunch that can get on it!:thumbsup2
