Questions for new mommies...

one thing I wish I had, was formula...even though I planned on nursing- the 3rd night I was home from the hospital, I could NOT suffer through the pain and allow DD to latch on, I was in tears, DD was crying, and DH was in tears just watching...

With it being a sunday night- about 130am- even the 24 hour grocery stores were closed- and 45 minutes away. We did have 2 24 hour gas station, convienence stores, but neither had formula...DH had to call DBIL/DSIL wake them up and go over there, and get a can of formula. Luckily her DS was 6 mo older than DD and she had some!

Even if you dont plan on needing it, it's GREAT to have a can on hand!

I have done a gift "basket" before and put the items in an infant bath tub it was cute. Some other things that I thought of was baby thermometer, baby nail clippers, brush, baby soap and shampoo, hooded towels, onesies, small bibs for drool and/or spit up, baby lotion/oil and it sounds weird but if you live near her if you grab a couple of take out menu's then she can have them on hand and her DH can pick something up on the way home... chinese, fridays, applebee, chevys, chilis etc... I know I have repeated some things but when I went to type I couldn't remember what I just read.

Boy are you a good friend she will love what ever you put in it!!

If she is breastfeeding I recommend lansinoh (it is for sore nipples and safe for babies) and nursing pads (Johnson & Johnson are my favorite-super absorbant. ;) ) A nursing pillow is really nice too. I used one called a Boppy. You can find them at Target and Wal-mart. Also baby hangers are great to have. And I love Aveeno products for babies. I, personally, prefer to use non-scented lotions and wash. A big bottle or box of Dreft detergent would be nice also.
My Sister loved using gowns for her babies and no one gave her any! :) Also a couple of little hats to keep their heads warm.

If she is breastfeeding, there is a wonderful product called "Soothies" for sore nipples. My best friend found herself driving 45 minutes to Babies 'R Us to get me some. I made sure I had some for a good friend of mine before she left the hospital. We also found hydrogel pads at a medical supply store with one of my kids (bascially the same product), but never found them in stock for any of the other kids. (I have three)
