Questions for August experts

I know that Free Dining is likely to be announced on Monday. How likely do all of you think it is that there will be an additional room-only discount offered for the end of August? My dilemma is that I currently have a room booked with 40% off for the second week in August. I would rather go at the end of August when the crowds die down a little, but if Free Dining is the only discount offered, I'd do better to stick with what I have. I also have never been at the beginning of August, and would like to know how crowded it really is, for those of you who have been.

Added to this is the fact that I'm afraid that airfare is going to go up with the Free Dining discount being released on Monday, so I should probably buy it before then.

Any advice or thoughts?

There will probably be a discount for room only also. There was last year. We did a split stay at the All Stars with the free dining and then a few days WL Club level with the discount code. I don't think it was 40% though-more like 35% or 30%.

I am going August 16th, I booked dining and got some kind of discount not sure what for the room. THe CM said there was a code attached to my name. When and if dining comes out, I will call and try to see which is the better deal. Either way I am going, just hoping for a discount.

I have never seen % off room and free dining together, Except when it comes to the UK specials. I guess we can hope and wish. If so, we will definately up grade from 2 rms at POP to tree house at SS.

OP, I could have written this post. I went ahead and booked Aug. 7-14, just because that is the latest the public code applies. But we really want to go the last week in Aug. I don't really want free dining, for a variety of reasons. But if that's all that is avail., I guess we could do it. I really want a room only discount. That's what we used last year that same week. Got 40% off the POly, but that was a PIN code emailed to us. SO far, no Pin code for us this year.

I agree that the end of Aug. seems better than early- to- mid. And since it is lower crowds that attract us at that time, I assume that the lower crowds would prompt discounts, too. Right?

I am also waiting - anxiously - for end of August dates. DH has a conference at Gaylords Palms at the end of Aug and I'd like to tack on 3-4 days at a Disney resort. We can add additional days at Gaylord Palms for $99 a night, but I would much rather move to a moderate or deluxe at WDW for the end of the trip. Hopefully there will be codes that make it possible, if not DH will want to stay at Gaylord for the cheap rate.

For those with room discounts at this point, depending on what category your are booked for (value, mod, deluxe) the free dining isn't always the best discount. We stay at the BWV and make out better with a room discount than free dining. Don't forget to get free dining you have to pay full price for the room and you can't stack discounts. Just a thought, you would have to price your trip using the discount and then at full price with free dining.

I was looking for a room only discount too. I looked on Mousesavers where they have the list of past discounts. FD usually comes out end of March-beginning of April, while room only discounts for this time period don't come out til June. Hope you find one.
