We have an option: preferred or waterview (not sure why standard isn't offered, but these are our two choices). The cost is the same.

I initially booked preferred location, but am thinking about calling back and switching to water view. On the spot I figured the view didn't matter since the rooms don't have balconies, but now I'm thinking it would be better because it would be near either the beach or the pool (which would be great for my son).

As far as the location goes: we will have a rental car and don't need to use buses and one of our favorite parts of the vacation is going for a long walk in the morning so I'm not "too" concerned with being away from the hub. Plus the pool is in rehab.

Any thought on which is a better choice?

As for my other questions...

What exactly is Caribbean Cay?

and

Where should we request to be so that we are close to a playground? My son lives for sand and playgrounds so this seems like a perfect combo. I would love for a room nearby so that either myself or DH could take him over there while the other gets ready.

Thanks so much!

I would vote for staying with the preferred location. IMHO a waterview is wasted unless you plan on leaving your drapes open and looking out the window (we do not).

By chosing waterview you are not necessary closer to the pool/beach. Mabye a few feet as if you don't have water view you might be on the inside (courtyard) of the building as opposed to the outside (pool/beach side), but we are talking a few feet to walk around the corner of the building.

we always have a car too and it is great to and from the park, but the preferred location was great when at the resort. We requested and got Martinique both times. The 1st time we were in the 1st building (26). It was like a 30 second walk to the main pool and food court. So nice in the morning when we went to get coffee, or in late afternoon to go to the giftshop or get a snack. Our room was on the second floor and from the walkway/balcony you could see the Epcot fireworks. Beach right in front of building and the playground was only about 1 minute down the walkway.

The second time we were in building 24 which is the farthest build that is still preferred. I think the walk was maybe 2 minutes. Our room looked out over the quiet pool and had a beach next door.

We have stayed at the CBR 3x but never made it to the carribean cay. From what I know it is an island in the middle of the lake.

If you don't care for the preferred location because of the rehab I would try for Jamacia. Not too far from the main hub. Has a beach and playground.

Hope that helps. You'll love CBR. It is one of our favorite places to stay.

Jamaica and Barbados have a playground. I wouldn't pay for the water view. You may be overlooking a quiet pool.

You might want to check out the CBR FAQ thread. Link is listed below.

The preferred rooms are in North Trinidad or Martinique - a very short walk from the food court area. The water view rooms are any area overlooking water or pool.....Check out the resort map http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/ for playground areas. You can always update your reservation to request "close to playground" or close "close to pool". It is just a request but it never hurts to ask.:wizard:

I think Jamaica building 44 or 43 would be a great choice to put in a request for. Close to a playground, beach and pool. Also close to the walkway to cross the island to the main area.

Here's a map:

I must say that I agree with the previous posters.... I wouldn't pay extra for a water view. After reading your post and the fact that you don't mind a walk, I don't think I would even suggest you pay for a preferred location.

I have found that, no matter where you stay at the CBR, you're always just a short walk to the pools and lake (can't swim in lake).

The village of Jamaica is just a very short walk to Old Port Royale. We were in Building 41 and the walk to the bus stop and quiet pool was about 2 minutes (if that). The walk to Old Port Royale was about 5 minutes. Jamaica also has a small playground.

Caribbean Cay is the island in the middle of the lake. It has picnic tables, benches and hammocks. It's a nice quiet spot to relax. Tropical/caribbean music plays on the island.
