Questions for a newbie on this board

Today was my first time on the transportation board. I was directed here from the Budget board, where I was looking for some advice about Priceline. Basically...I've been looking for a discount on rental cars for my trip August 16-24th. We got a great rate to fly down (99.00/RT from Connecticut to Orlando)...and now I would love a great deal for the rental car. I've read down the boards...but I'm a bit confused. Everyone seems to be mentioning National..and the discount codes....coupons...and such...but will it work for me? I don't have a Disney Club membership...and I'm not willing to pay $50.00 to join the Emerald Isle (don't anticipate anymore trips this year)...so basically...I'm wondering how it will work for me?

Well if you have a BJ's membership or some other warehouse club, or perhaps the discover card you can get some pretty good discounts with National. The full-size base rate for a week from National at around that time is about $136 which isn't too bad. If you go to mousesavers.com you can be directed to a site that will give you a free day. All in all rental on a full size car for the week should be about $155-$160 total.

Just an update as to what I reserved.

I did manage to get a National Emerald Club membership through the capital one site (thanx to the tip from mousesavers.com). I also used a coupon. I was able to rent a full size car from National for 167.00/8 days. This is the best rate I've gotten so far...and I'm pretty pleased with it. I've seen other's cheaper...but I think it's the best I can do with my situation. I really am grateful to all the info shared on these boards...never could have done it without ya.
