Questions about villa location

We got our villa rented yesterday and I am soooo excited that I can hardly stand it!!!:teeth:

I had a couple of questions if someone doesn't mind helping out.

The home is located in Indian Creek, in Kissimmee.

Is there a nearby grocery store that has reasonable prices?

Are there restaurants near by? Fast food and major chains (like Applebees, Chili's... things like that)?

Is it easy to get to the theme parks from this location? What's the best route to take to avoid traffic?

We want to visit a beach one day during our trip. I have never seen the ocean so I am really excited about this. I want something kid friendly and preferable some place with shells. We are visiting Clearwater on the last 3 days of our 10 day trip so we'll see that side of the state then.... I'm kind of looking for something on the East coast of Florida for the first week of our trip.

What is a good beach that isn't that far away? How far is it?

Hi...you sound exited and well you should be...

Indian Creek is a great location very close to Disney. You will need a car however to get to anything. These housing developments are like any neighborhood and are quite a distance from shopping. You will be off Formosa Gardens Blvd, just south of Disney. Lots and lots of restaurants and souvineer stores on 192 east or west just off FG Blvd.

For Groceries there is a large supermarket in the Formosa Gardens Shopping Center, about 1 1/2 miles from your home. This is the closest shopping. In theCenter will be a pharmacy, spirits store, Dairy Queen, and a very good Pizza house, Giordono's. There is also an Outback, Red Lobster, right on this corner.

So there are plenty of restaurants. For a great buffet, the Golden Corral is just 1/2 block east on 192 and for a budget meal or great breakfast, they cannot be beat.

On the Atlantic side the closet beach is CoCoa Beach...about 70 minutes straight east. I am not a big beach person, but I hear that all good shells are on the gulf side...

To get to Disney follow 192 east to the entrance...about 3 miles

Good Luck and have a great time...

Ted

Cocoa beach is the closest to the area. We just spent a night at Daytona on the way back from Universal and it is a pretty crappy area, from what I saw. We had to leave the first hotel. The Boardwalk area was not my kind of place either. There were no shells at all, even in the a.m. The beach was alright, just not a nice area.

dkal95...check out this website...http://www.kissimmee-us192.com/ It has an interactive map system that shows everything from grocery stores to restaurants along 192. There are maps for Lake Buena Vista and International Drive in this site. Also take Sherberth Road to Osceola Parkway which connects you to all the Disney parks. It's much quicker than taking World Drive. :thewave:

Hi...here are my foolproof directions to get to Disney via Sherberth Raod...It is a well kept secret but since Baileybelle let the cat out, here is the slick way to go. I pasted this from directions to our home, so ignore reference to Emerald Island and just use the directions that get you to and from Disney from 192.

the Kissimmee 192 map in the previous post is really slick also!

Enjoy..Ted

Super short cut to Disney World
Drive back to HIGHWAY 192. Turn RIGHT and go one block to SHERBERTH RD. Turn LEFT. Follow Sherberth Rd. 1.2 MILES (it will twist and turn at the end) to a 4-way stop. On your left will be Animal Kingdom Lodge. Turn RIGHT and Animal Kingdom will appear on your left. Take the first left for Animal Kingdom Parking. For all other Disney Parks go straight and follow the signs. This is just 6 minutes or less from your home. NOW!!! If and ONLY IF traffic to Disney is backed up past Formosa Gardens Blvd when you get to the 192 intersection. (this can happen during very busy times), turn LEFT out of Formosa Gardens Blvd. onto HIGHWAY 192 and drive west to BLACK LAKE RD. Turn RIGHT on BLACK LAKE ROAD and take it back to Sherberth Rd and then turn left on Sherberth and proceed to the stop sign. Works GREAT!

To EXIT Disney
Follow the signs from inside the park to ANIMAL KINGDOM. As you approach Animal Kingdom stay LEFT and follow the signs to Animal Kingdom Lodge. When you get to the stoplight, turn LEFT on to Sherberth to HIGHWAY 192. Turn RIGHT(West) on 192 and back to Formosa Garden Blvd. You are now a Disney Pro at getting around!

tednvon...Thanks so much for the Black Lake Road tip. I was unaware of that timesaver. That's why I am addicted to these boards. The people on these boards make planning a trip to WDW so easy!!! Thanks again! :thewave:

Another option for avoiding build up on the 192 is to turn right at the 4-way stop sign on Formosa Gardens Blvd onto Funie Steed Road immediately after exiting Indian Creek (if you are coming from Emerald Island you will already be on the Funie Steed, so just go straight over at the 4-way stop sign).

At this point, the Funie Steed Road is a dirt track for a few hundred yards, but just go steady. At the next junction turn left onto Entry Point Road. At the lights, head straight across the 192 onto the Sherberth Road and follow Ted's directions.

The supermarket at FG Shopping Center is a Wynn Dixie. We prefer the Publix a bit further west on the 192. Turn left onto the 192 from FG Blvd and it's a mile or so along on the right-hand side (just after the entrance to Black Lake Road which Ted mentions).

We have never visited the east coast, but a local told us during our recent trip (just got back a week ago :( ) that they refer to Daytona Beach as "Dirtona". Doesn't sound good...
