Questions about VGC - availability and renting

Hello.

I am looking at renting at the VGC and would love some feedback.

We will be traveling in Jan/Feb of 2016 (ideally) and need a 2 bedroom villa. What are the chances of securing a reservation at 7 months out? We are trying to rent points but have not been able to secure a reservation yet (I put in an agency request at 11 months out) and I am starting to get nervous. Wondering if I should look into other options or just wait it out.

I've been able to get a studio twice (early May, late September) and a 1 bedroom twice (both August) at 7 months. I would wait for 7 months before looking elsewhere.

You have a better possibility with a 2 bedroom villa than a studio, you might try and see if there are private renters on the rent trade board here that could secure it before the 7 month date.

As long as it's not Star Wars Marathon weekend, you should be okay at the seven month mark, since you're looking for a two bedroom. Still, there are plenty of people over on the board who are happy to make the reservation - there's a couple of people with VGC points available on the board now.

I just managed to secure a two bedroom for Avengers weekend at 7 months. I got Thur - Mon. I actually walked the reservation a bit to help ensure I got it. I started the 10th and got 10-13th. On the 11th I dropped the 10th added the 14th. Today (12th) I dropped the 11th and added the 15th. I only needed a 1 bedroom, but it wasn't totally available for my dates. The 2 bedroom had availability for the longest, there's still some availability for the weekend part of my stay.

That said, I read lots of threads saying VGC was very hard to get at 7 months. I'm happily surprised I got it, and do think walking the reservations a few days helped.

My limited experience booking vgc at 7 months had 2BR most available as well. Perhaps it's because of the high point cost.. We ended up in a 2BR lockoff--seemed like they could have booked it as a 1 BR and let someone else have the studio. It was a wonderful room though, on the 5th floor with a theme park view. Most lavish and magical hotel stay of my life--we had to buy in after that.

I was able to secure a 2 bedroom the weekend before Presidents Day weekend last year at 7 months. Checked in on a Friday and checked out the following Tuesday.

Your problem times are potentially Star Wars half marathon weekend, usually in mid-Jan, and time around Presidents' Day weekend; otherwise Jan, once you are beyond the Christmas holiday time, and Feb at VGC are usually open at 7 months out except for GV's.

We are going to try and book for a few days the week after President's Day weekend. I am hoping for a studio but have the points to do a 1-bedroom (we'd do 4 nights in a studio or 3 nights in a 1-bedroom if it were to be the case).

Watching the availability tracker it looks like there is often availabilty up to the 7-month mark, but the availabilty disappears VERY quickly right after the 7-month day. (within hours). IF you are renting points, and you can be assured wherever you are renting from will go after your reservation right away, you probably have a decent shot at getting what you want.

I got Presidents day week in 2014, at 7 months, no walking it. One Bedroom. I was surprised to get it, as that is the last week before the points jump way up until September.

I am going to try for early February again next year, I think. Fingers crossed. Aiming for the Chinese New Year days.
