Questions about Uber

My family and I are planning on coming down in early December and for the first time we are not staying in a Disney resort, this time opting to try out Bonnet Creek. Our party includes 4 adults, a 9 year old, and a 4 year old. We would need a carseat for transportation and obviously a ride big enough for 6 people.

My wife is concerned with using Uber because she doesn't personally now anyone who have used them and she's concerned that it may not be a good idea since we need a car seat and there are 6 of us. I have never used Uber myself and I just signed up this morning and it looks pretty easy and not to mention much cheaper than using Mears.

Who's the cheapest?
The safest?
The best with airport pickup?

Any information you could provide would be very much appreciated. I'm not even sure if using Uber, or someone else, would be the best option for me and my family.

We use Uber a lot and found it to be much less expensive and more convenient than taxis. With 6 people, keep in mind you will need to request Uber XL.

I've used Uber extensively since I used to travel a lot for business. Uber makes it very easy for airport pick up in most places; some airports place restrictions but there's usually work-arounds. The great thing about Uber is that it's one-price, regardless of passengers or bags. So for a family with bags, it's ideal. You can also request a car seat as well. If you're using nicer levels like Uber Black or SUV, you'll find a lot of those guys are professional drivers and are doing this in their off time. I had a guy tell me once that he drove for a couple of CEOs, and that when they were out of town he did this as a side gig.

Make sure you use a $15 off code. If you don't have one, you can use mine: f95g4.

The 4yo does not need a car seat -- a booster seat is legal for that age in FL. So you may want to secure a portable booster seat to carry with you. Bubble Bum is a popular inflatable one that's available from Walmart, Amazon, and other places. Another one I saw just today is called Mifold; it costs a bit more and AFAIK is available only online (Google it.)

Although Uber does offer rental of a car seat from OIA & in the tourist corridor, an XL with one may not always be immediately available, plus if you take 4 or more trips you'll break even or save by purchasing a Bubble Bum.

XL is the Uber vehicle size that takes 6 passengers. If you have a lot of luggage, you might have to order a 2nd vehicle from and to the airport. You could start with 1 XL, and then order an UberX (or Select at the airport) if you can't all fit. You will need to have the app on a 2nd phone with a different user to order a 2nd vehicle.

Also, be forewarned that rates leaving the airport are higher. The vehicles that pick up at the airport are classified as Select, and the drivers have to carry commercial insurance and permits.
