I have not been to a Disney park with my dad since I was a teenager. In November we will be going with a group of 7 including my dad. We are renting an ECV since his is currently broken.
He has major back/neck/mobility problems. He normally spends about 4 hours out of bed and then has to rest for 2 hours or more. This is just being around the house and not doing much more than walking to the kitchen to get drinks and to the bed and bath.
We are staying onsite so he can get to the hotel easier and it is likely he will spend about 3 hours a day in the parks with us and the rest of his time at the resort, resting.
The last time we went to Disney(land) they still had it set up so wheelchairs used the exits as entrances and bypassed the lines. I understand that is not the way it is now and that he will wait in line with the rest of us. Are there rides that differ from that and how do we know which rides do what? It is likely that while he is with us we will use fastpass as much as possible.
He is able to get out of the ECV and onto the rides as long as he doesn't have to move far. What is the average walk from where they would make him abandon the ECV to where he actually gets on the rides? I know it's probably different for each ride but I'm wondering which rides we should even attempt and which rides we should completely forget about.
His favorite ride is the Haunted Mansion. At Disneyland to get him on the ride he would go in the exit and they would stop the DoomBuggies so he could get in. Do they still do this? I don't know that he could get on it if they don't!
Thanks for your help, this board is a source of invaluable information and I am so happy to have you <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_30_114.gif' border=0></a>
