Questions about the DJ at the reception?

Can anyone tell me how that works? Do they just give you anyone?\
Can you meet with them to let me know what kind of music you want?

I think this is my biggest concern because i know how a dj can make or break the reception.

Hi there - they did just assign someone to you...I had DJ Frankie C. He was assigned to me about 2-3 weeks out. I believe I read somewhere they are assigning sooner now (I married in '06)

But I gave him a list of songs, I did not feel that he was 100% receptive to all of it, but you can do anything YOU want. My EM told me to make a request list and a DO NOT PLAY List. - even now, don't wait, so that way you will have it.

We were assigned our DJ around a month before the wedding. He had a web-site that we used to put down must plays, would like to have played and absolutely don't plays. We also put the songs for the entrance, first dance, etc and what kind of music we wanted during dinner. We e-mailed him a couple of times and had a phone call with him too. When we were done with our pics and the guests were still at the cocktail hour we talked to him in the ballroom. He was fabulous and listened to what we wanted and didn't want. We had a few specific things, but told him he is the professional and play whatever kept people dancing. It worked really well and the dance floor was packed the whole night.

Can anyone tell me how that works?

I was assigned a DJ at the last-minute. When he and I spoke over the telephone a few days prior to my event and he asked me if I had a "do not play" list, I told him that I didn't. I simply wanted him to do his thing while I did mine -- a.k.a., dance, dance, dance.

However, since there was going to be a full moon on the night of my event, I did have one request -- a set of "moon" songs. I gave him the name of one song in particular and asked him to play it and any other song that he felt fit the "moon" theme. He whipped off a few names while we were on the phone and I told him they sounded perfect.

On the night of my event, my DJ followed through beautifully. My husband & I danced to the song that I had requested -- and then to the other "moon" songs that the DJ had selected for us. It worked out beautifully and the dance portion of my event was a huge success.
