Questions about the add-on plans

If you book a package using the gold/or platinum packages, what do you get at check-in for the meals?

Let's say we are going to use one of the plans. My DH, myself and our 2 children are going. My MIL is also going.

DH will not be around enough to use any of the food because of an event in Clermont. Can my MIL use his or do they have names printed on them?

We probably won't go with a plan but I'm very curious about other people's past experiences.

I'm not trying to get something for nothing. Just so happens MIL will be there when DH is not. Do you just get a code on your room key or something when you check-in?

Thanks in advance for any info.

The options that you get with the plans are coded into your room key.

The options are coded into your room key, and since the keys only have one name on them, you won't have a problem, just make sure it's your name (the ressies are in your name). If your MIL is leaving when DH will be joining you, it would work out perfectly.

vbfamily,

Your plan options are encoded on your room key. If you want your MIL to use your DH's portion of the meals, there will be no problem as long as she is with you, and you are presenting your room key card as payment.

You are paying for the components of your package, and they are yours to do with as you please.

If you do chose to go on a plan, let the kids pay for dinner once or twice. When my brother and I were younger we loved giving the waiter/waitress the card and then siging for the meal when they returned. It made us feel so important, like we could spend lots of money. I never once was asked for ID to prove we were either the person whose name was on the card or in any way associated with that party. My brother and I went by ourselves once with my mom paying for the trip (trip in her name but she stayed in NJ) and didn't have any problems using it at all.

We did the Grand Plan twice. Both times our room room keys were coded with the number of adults & children in our party (I think one of the times it was coded for adults, children, and juniors). I'm not sure how the new plans work for 2003.

What if everybody isn't together at meal time? This is really beginning to alarm me; we have the Silver Plan for September, but I didn't think that we would necessarily all have to eat every meal together. There are six adults, a child and a junior, but one couple (no children) will more than likely want to do something different at least SOME of the days we are there! Will they not be able to use their Magical Wishes if I'm not with them???

For one reservation, all 'wishes' are grouped together. When my husband and I went, we had 2 wishes per person per night and were there for 6 nights / 7 days. So we had 12 wishes in our account to use the 7 days we were there. Both cards had my husbands name, one had his signature on back and one had my signature. I could use the wishes however we wanted. He could use all 12, I could use all 12, he could use 6 and me 6, he could use 2 and me 10, etc. We didn't have to be together either.

I think as long as all people are on the same reservation, their wishes are drawn from the same account. When we paid with a wish, I believe the receipt said x number of wishes remaining from the reservation.

As always though, Disney may have changed since we went.

Okay, that's a relief. DH and I will be going along with the family who has children , because there will be a toddler to help with. But son and DIL will want to explore widely and far faster than we will (and they won't necessarily want to ride "Small World" 87 times each morning). They do plan to spend a lot of time time with us, and eat dinner with us most nights, but I didn't want them to have to be chained to our sides.

I will call Disney later and ask specifically, though; like you said, I need to check into any changes that have been made.

Thanks!

Does everybody in you party have to have the add-on? For instance, could just my husband and I add the silver plan, but not add it to the kids?
Thanks,
Cathy

Not everyone in your party has to have the add-on plan. You and your spouse could do it and just leave the kids off. You would just have to pay cash for them. You can't, however, have 2 different plans in one room-you can't do the gold while the kids do silver.

It seems too complicated. I've been checking prices, etc. and it just isn't worth it for us. I only wanted my DH on the plan the last half of our vacation and WDTC said they could do it and then the next person I talked to said they couldn't.

I have gone over the figures numerous times and it's just cheaper to do everything seperately in our case.

You are more than welcome to not have your kids on the plan. Many people do this.

I called disney (twice) and both times they told me I couldn't just add the adults to the plan. I have to add all of us, or none at all. How do I get around this?
I had also asked before about adding on the romance package for my hubby and I since we were celebrating our anniversay while there and they said (again) we'd have to add everyone. So does that mean my 11 and 13 year old get to split the champagne during the carriage ride?
Doesn't make sense to me.

You should call them back. That simply is not true. I was told last week when I was ready to book that I could just put DH and I on the plan. I also have read many posts backing up this fact.

Are you calling Walt Disney World Travel? or CRO?

I would call WDTC to book the package.

Call 1-407-WDW-MAGIC and punch option 1 (I think).

Post again if you have a problem and I'll call there.

In addition, I was also offered the option of me and my two children using the plan and my DH just paying cash for everything because he is not going to be on-site the whole time.

Let me know.

Just a thought. We did the "Grand Plan" in 1999. There were three of us, DD was 8 at the time. I have to say that we would have done a lot less sit-down meals if we hadn't been on the plan. If you don't "spend" all that you pay, you don't get anything back. So, if your son and DIL prefer to keep on the move and not eat breakfast and lunch at sit-down restaurants, you may not spend it all. Kids also hate waiting for meals for hours a day. Of course, you could always make a PS at California Grill or V&A for your last night. If you drink wine, you should be able to blow any remaining balance! Diana

I should add, that if you opt not to do the plan, you can still charge meals to your account using your room card. As long as you authorize it, all the room keys will have charging on them. Diana

How is it determined if you can charge and how much?
Thanks
Cathy

phorsenuf,

Did you call and find out if they were going to let you do it without the kids being on it?

If you don't do the plan-you just give them a charge card at check in and then you can charge whatever you want on your room key-meals, recreation, you name it. You can even give them cash at check in specifically to use for you charging back to your room.

If you decide to do the plan, let me know what they tell you re: the kids.

We are not going to do the plan. We're still going to eat where we want and do some recreation but we're doing it for a lot less than what we were quoted for the plan.

Good luck in your planning.

I haven't called again yet because I want to do some more figuring. I came across a cool download that lets you put in how long you are going to be there for and how many people. Then it gives you a chart that actually has a pull down menu for virtually every place there is to eat at disney and it does average calculations for you. It's real cool! I'm going to play with that and get an idea of how much we may end up spending on food and then decide from that.
I'll let you know how I make out! Thanks!!!
Cathy

Any chance of sharing that info with us Cathy? That sounds like a really cool way to check out if the "plans" are worth it!
