Questions about Teens (15,18) being able to order off child menu

Can teenagers order off the kids menu if they so choose? My two are very picky and some of the resturants look good to me and DH but I know my teens will not eat half the stuff. My 18 Y/O son is still pretty much "if it ain't a chicken nugget I ain't eatin it." Love to be a fly on the wall when that one goes off to college in the fall...lol. Those of you that have picky eaters as kids? Wait till they are teens ha ha.

We've just come back from our 5th trip to WDW and my two still like to order from the kids menu, and they are 12 and 15. We had no problems, apart from not being given a kids menu automatically, we had to ask for one every time. You made me laugh about your 18 year old son, and there was me thinking that they won't be eating off kids menus for much longer!

I can't remember ever being denied ordering food off the childrens menu. I'm taking my DD-13 this fall and we'll be ordering alot from the kiddy menu. I do too and not because I'm cheap, it's for portion size. Otherwise we will order one adult meal and share. Can't wait to start planning our reservations!! WooHoo!!

If your not on the dining plan it shouldn't be a problem. We didn't have any problems in October or December but my "adult" is 11 LOL. I have read the occasional post where an older teen has been made to pay a surcharge but also received a bit more food in return.

I will say that IMHO the kids menu offerings are getting more into the mac & cheese, PB&J, hot dog scene and less of the burger or reduced size fish, chicken steak that we saw in years past.

Of course if they can't or don't want to order off the kids menu there is often an appetizer and or soup and salad that could be made into a meal. My dd's get tired of the kids fare and often will order a salad, soup or appetizer to split after a few days of the kid stuff. Also keep in mind that even if he can get say a kids chicken strip meal it was 2 small strips and a few fries with applesauce and a tiny drink in a sippy. She was mortified about the sippy and it wasn't enough for my 60lb 11yo so your teen may need two (After the first time I made sure and order a full size, full price drink for her).

A quick check to allearsnet will give you access to all the menus. I would check the childrens menu offerings, appetizers and such and see if you can find places your group will be happy with. On those few where the teens won't be happy perhaps you and DH can have an hour or so alone while the teens take in an extra ride and a counter service meal.

I too would be concerned about the amount of food in a kids meal. No where near enough for a teen age boy!!! I would however ask the server if they could create an adult size serving of what ever it is he likes. Most anywhere will do a grilled cheese even if it is not on the menu!
