Can someone update me on the new procedures for going through metal detectors? I seem to recall this is a now a requirement for entry to MK, but that the metal detectors are not at the park entrance. We are staying at AKL and will travel to MK by Disney bus. Just wondering where we will have to deal with the metal detectors.
Is this only a requirement for MK?

Thanks for any info provided.

There are screening areas before every park & at TTC. It it really going to depend on what mode of transportation you are taking to get to the parks. You said you are taking the bus, so you will be screened when you are dropped off at MK. It is a requirement for all of the parks.

Instead of having everyone go through the bag check and metal detectors at the front of MK, Disney has bumped out the security barrier as so:

- Guests who are parking in the Transportation and Ticket center go through the security screening there, prior to boarding the monorail or ferryboat.
- Guests staying at the monorail resorts (Poly, GF, Contemporary) go through security screenings at the resort before boarding.
- Guests taking a bus or ferry boat from any of the Disney resorts will go through security screenings one they arrive at the park, so similar to how it was done before. The security checks are closer to the bus and ferry drop offs.

This just breaks it up so Disney doesn't have a swarm of people congregating at the front of the park at one time.

Is the entrance to the Epcot monorail at the TTC inside the secured area? I know not many Epcot guests are likely to park at the TTC, but do those guests end up going through security twice to get into Epcot?
I'm guessing somewhere there's a map that shows how the new security checks are set up, and I can probably make a pretty good guess at who made these maps!

Yes, Epcot monorail is within TTC secured area. We took it from Epcot last week, exited down the ramp into TTC, and then went up the MK express monorail ramp - all within the TTC secured area. No rescreening at TTC or MK.

ETA: Oops, I think I read the question as EP to TTC, not TTC to EP. Hopefully the info will still help someone.

If you're going from the TTC to Epcot, you'll go through security twice: Once when getting off the trams at the TTC, and again after getting off the monorail at Epcot - the exit for that monorail station is outside the secured area.

If coming from Epcot to the TTC, you will only go through security at Epcot (And that's when going into the park. If simply exiting for the monorail, no security check to board).

Seems like the only way around that would be to swap the entrance and exit ramps at Epcot - which, I'm told, was how the station was originally intended. Problem with that is that it would then require re-screening for those *boarding* at Epcot, which just swaps one problem for another.

Do they still do a bag check? Are the medal detectors like the airport, you walk through a frame? Thanks

Yes, they will still check bags and yes the metal detectors are similar to the ones at the airport were you would walk through the frame.

We were at MK last Wednesday, took the ferry from TTC to MK and walked right up to the tapstiles. There were no directions, signs...to go through security. It was 7:00 pm but still we were very confused as to where to go. Luckily we didn't have any bags but still....

To note, Guests are still sent through metal detectors at random. At least sometimes.
When going through the security at the resort boat launches we always did metal detectors (we haven't arrived to MK via bus since the change)
When we entered AK and HS on the same trip we never had to enter metal detectors.
On that trip we only entered Epcot via the Express bus so no report on random or other there

So you had no security check at TTC? That's where it is for all guests arriving via TTC. There would be none at MK

By 7 pm, they've packed up security and they're done for the night. We came in late a couple of times and saw no security (last week). They're being much more thorough with the bags then they were the last time we were there, 2 years go - EVERY little pocket is being checked, they're using the sticks and flashlights. My husband had to be wand screened a couple of times - no idea why. But I was using a scooter, and they waved me past the metal detectors every time.

I've seen security after close at the ttc as some might have to turn around because they lost something and need to go check. not sure what you ran into with no checks to go through it..

We came from Epcot on the monorail, got on the ferry and walked right to the tap stiles. The only security we went through was at IG when entering Epcot.

Oh, that's why. You went through security entering Epcot. The ramp to the monorail is inside the security check for the park so when you got on the monorail you never left the secure zone.
