I've been reading about room only reservations and have a few questions. How hard is it to modify an existing reservation if I want to shorten my stay? Are there any repercussions from not being able to pay the balance until the day of arrival? (such as you can be cancelled, etc) Is there absolutely no way to pay off before? Does that affect my 180+10 days? I am so confused; I have always gotten a package in the past so this is my first room only.

How hard is it to modify an existing reservation if I want to shorten my stay?

It takes the same amount of effort as it takes for a package. You need to call and may be subject to availability if you booked using a discount. If they don't have the number of days you want at the resort you're booked at, you might be out of luck. It used to be that you could just drop or add a day, but it doesn't always work out that way anymore.​

Your balance is due upon arrival. There are no negatives to waiting until then to make your final payment. If you cancel your trip with less than 5 days until your arrival date, you will forfeit your 1-night's deposit. If you want to pay in full before arrival, you need to call. You cannot make payments online like you can with a package.​

Does that affect my 180+10 days?

No. Most people with packages have not paid it off in full at the 180+10 date, either.​
