OK, we'll hitting US/IOA for 1 day and would like to not get sick from the rides... :)

I can't do spinning rides (like Mission Space) and DBF can't do upside down rides (any Rollercoaster that twists and puts you upside down - going up and down is ok though... ).

So all of you US/IOA experts, could you tell me which rides are spinning and which rides goes upside down?

Thanks so much!

I'm a motion sickness sufferer, so I'll relay what rides I don't go on.

Universal:
Mummy (roller-coaster-ish, but I understand no upside down)

Back to the Future (no upside down, no spinning, but makes me nauseous being on rides where you have to look at a screen while you're in a little capsule)

That's it. I do go on Men in Black, and there is a little bit of spinning. Think of the teacup ride over at MK. There is one part of the ride that spins you for about 5 seconds like the teacups -- and not quite as fast as the teacups, IMO. I won't go near M:S with a ten-foot pole, but I do okay on MIB.

Islands of Adventure:

For spinning/upside down roller coasters, I think you'd want to opt out of the big roller coasters (Dueling Dragons, both Fire & Ice, as well as Hulk)...I think they all go upside down at one point), and they have a similar teacup ride over at IOA that looks like it has a good bit of spinning. Other than that, you should be fine over at IOA.

I thought for years that USO/IOA was not going to be up my alley since I don't go on scary rides. Not the case at all. There's plenty for everyone!

Have fun :)

ROTM does NOT go upside down. MIB there is a spin of about 2-3 times and that's it...you ride along a track shooting aliens....I don't think you spin long enuf to get sick (do at end of the day if you're not sure). DD: both Fire and Ice DO go upside down. The "teacup" ride at IOA is by Hulk -- Stormforce Acceleration...open ride-you can see the ride from the "sidelines". Also, in Suess Landing, Cat in the Hat ride, spins briefly about 3 times during the ride....it's for the family (children) and not too bad--shouldn't get sick, but again, do end of day if not sure. Also, in IOA, Spiderman will spin you about 3 times also...not too bad..or any worse than MIB. They aren't meant to be "thrill" spins (like on coasters), but rides on tracks....so, (IMHO) they aren't too bad. I think you'd be okay on these rides, as I mentioned they only spin about 3 times and it's done....I think a repetitive spin would do the "damage".

I agree with the others. I used to be able to ride anything, but now I get sick on some rides. :guilty:

US:
I've ridden The Mummy a few times & not gotten sick. The only time I have was our last visit, when I tried to get in one last ride on BTTF. I was still a little sick from BTTF & got a little sick on the part of the track where you go backwards. If up & down doesn't bother you, ROTM won't. It's kind of like Big Thunder Mtn. RR @ WDW, but indoors & with great special effects. The part that you go backwards on is very short.

Personally, I put MIB more in the category of Buzz @ MK. It's a much better ride though.

Back To The Future.... RUN!!!!!!! :scared1:

IOA:
I totally agree with PP on Hulk, DD & Storm Force.

Again, I consider the Cat in the Hat more like the MK's dark rides that spin.

Spiderman does spin a little, but it's not bad. I wouldn't skip this ride no matter what. IMO, this is the best theme park ride I've ever ridden. The Mummy comes in a close 2nd.

PlutoLuvr,
You really should ride ROTM next trip. The 1st couple times I rode it I closed my eyes. I must have a much more fertile imagination than the UO creative team. :p When I finally got up the nerve to ride with my eyes open, it wasn't nearly as bad as I had imagined it to be. :rolleyes1 I think the more I ride it, the better I like it. :teeth:

I'm thinking I *might* be getting a little more courageous every time I go, Tarheelfan. I don't know, tho. I can handle Thunder Mountain, but I need to sit a while after.

Part of what fumbles up my decision-making every time is the Universal powers-that-be put that dang Finnegan's right in front of ROTM!!! I mean, this is really a no-brainer for me...pints of ice-cold harp in the air-conditioning with Scotch eggs while I wait for the hubby and chat with the bartender or possibly getting sick on a ride.

Finnegan's wins every time :thumbsup2

I might try it this trip, tho. If I do, should I do Finnegan's first or after??? I might need some liquid courage to get on the thing, but I don't want to puke it all up.

Unless you can get that "liquid encouragement" :rotfl: EARLY, do it after!!! Try w/ eyes closed (w/ a little peeking) and then w/ eyes open....you might be surprised how much you like it! And if not, you at least tried! The rule in our house is: you have to try to be able to say "I don't like" (whether we're talking food, rides, etc....) Go for it--you can do it! :thumbsup2

Thanks, Bubba's :)

Hubby agrees on the beers after the ride route, too.

It took me years to get up the nerve to go on Spidey, and that's simply the best ride in the world, IMO. I'm trying to look at ROTM that way.

:thumbsup2 ...exactly!!!! (just don't hurt yourself after kicking yourself for waiting so long ;) )

That's what's great about US and IOA, they don't have many rides that make you sick. The 2 big coasters Hulk and Dragons, and the Dr. Doom drop is probably the only ones you have to avoid. And I have a get sick stomach too and can still do Hulk with ease, so you may want to try it, the only reason I suggest it is because it is in my opinion the best smaller coaster in the world. I normally like the mega coasters (250ft. and up). All the others you should be fine. At the end of Spidey you may want to just close your eyes and you'll be fine, since you are not actually moving that much at all. The mummy is very tame in my opinion on the get sick scale, you should be fine with that one too. Just avoid those 3 I mentioned and you should be all good. You can hit Mythos the tree, or anywhere at City Walk for a few shots first he he he.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions... I will make sure to show this list to DBF so we could avoid getting green faced during our trip. :)
