Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, but I haven't been able to find it in any of my searching or reading:

1) If I rent DVC points, do I need to rent enough from one person to cover my entire reservation? Looking to book a week+ (so a hefty points total) and wondering if I can rent points from several people to cobble together my reservation? (Availability notwithstanding.)

e.g. If I'm looking to make a reservation that would be 300 pts, and someone has 250 pts available, and another person has 50 pts for rent. Anyway to combine them?

2) Is it completely impossible to find anything on short notice (looking for mid-Nov)? I'm kind of starting to pick up on the feeling that ... it's impossible.

:headache: This trip would be wayyyyyy easier if we weren't going to be such a large group. I mean, it's lovely that everyone is so eager to fly in and join us, but we're going to be a group of 8(ish) and it's becoming difficult to find us accommodation. :(

Woah you are way too late for mid November at this stage especially for a full week. I mean miracles can happen and I'd never say never but I don't like your chances. It is only a couple I months of time to book next November never mind this November

You are not actually renting points - you are renting a reservation. Non-members can't really combine points. You could rent part of a reservation from one member and the rest from another, though.

For example, you could rent 5 nights from one member and the other 2 from another member (or some other combination of whole night (s) from multiple members) However, that is a tough thing to do as it requires quite a bit of coordination. Especially if this is your first renting experience, you would be MUCH, MUCH better served to rent the entire reservation from one member.

It wouldn't be completely impossible, but at this point, there is very limited space available for November 2014. Your best (and maybe only viable) option would be for the third week of November at SSR. The sooner you get something booked the better.

Arranging trips for others can be a stressful & thankless job, especially when there isn't much lead time. Given what you've posted, my advice is to book directly through Disney (or even stay off-site) for this trip. You may qualify for the free dining promotion if you book through Disney and since mid-November is a slower time for the parks, there will probably be some great bargains off site, especially if you'd like to stay in a multi-bedroom vacation home. Good luck!

To expand a bit on what CarolMN said, you won't be making the reservation yourself. We talk about 'renting points' because members charge by the point, but only the member can make a reservation with their points. The member retains ownership of the reservation right up until you check in at the resort, and they would need to make any changes, add the dining plan, etc.

DVC is a timeshare, and like other timeshares, members tend to book very early. Members can book their home resort at 11 months out, and other resorts at 7 months out.....and they do. Your chances are very slim at this point, but there's no harm in asking. You may have to change resorts or room types during your stay, though.

Renting points is very tough when you're working with a large group. Most members and brokers have a no-cancellation policy, and if you want to change dates or downsize because some members of your group have dropped out, that will be impossible because of the lack of availability on such short notice. So, if you get a 2-bedroom villa for your group of 8 and 5 people decide they can't come......you're going to be stuck with that 2-bedroom villa.
