Hi!
I'm BRAND new to DVC. I'm researching a possible trip in late April-early May 2007 and the thought of renting points just popped into my head as an option. Can someone point me in the right direction so I can learn more about this? I have no idea how the renting works and I'm sure I'll have lots of questions along the way, just want to make sure I'm in the right place.
Thanks!!
:)

You will want to start with the point renting FAQ's on this board. Click here to get a link to those.

Then move on to a nice thread for renters....the Point Rental Primer. .

And of course, come back here with questions. But it would be a good start to digest those two links first.

Good reading! :)

Also, keep in mind that the 7-month window for your planned time frame has already opened - so you'll want to start working on securing a reservation ASAP if you decide to rent points.

Thanks Granny, that's exactly the info I was looking for to get started and decide if renting is for us!

Star - I know!! :sad2: I haven't even gotten DH to agree to the trip yet, just exploring all our options and I didn't even know where to start with this. It might end up not even being an option for us this time, but might be something to look into for future trips when we plan a little farther out!

I rented points several years ago and it went great. My "renter" asked for 25% down at the time the reservation was made and she did a three way call with dvc on the line when the reservation was made for me as her "friend". I paid the balance one or two months later. I had a reservation number from dvc and a confirmation letter from dvc of my reservation. I was treated as a member during my stay. It went so well, I recently bought a 150 point membership at SSR resort. When you decide to rent, talk to your dvc member about reservation and payment details until you are comfortable. The dvc members I've encountered on these boards are congenial people who like disney and will make you feel comfortable with the arrangement. If not, find another renter! Hope this helps!

Biggest things to remember:

You are working with an individual owner, not Disney.

You may or may not be able to change or cancel the reservation.

The owner may require full payment up front.

You are not entitled to DVC member perks, but you do get WDW guest perks.

You will not be able to contact Member Services.

Good luck with your trip.
