We (my kids and I) have been to WDW several times without my DH. He just ins't into crowds or travel for that matter, he's a homebody. Anyway our next trip we are taking him with us and I just know he would love to stay at WL but i'm not sure if we could swing it so I was thinking of renting points from a DVC member. How does that work? I know most people charge $11 per point and I know about how many we would need but i'm a little nervous...what if?? Do yo sign a contract or something? Anyone out there do this before and have a good experience?? I want this trip to be smooth otherwise DH would NEVER go back. (but I will :teeth: ) Any input would be great, thanks.

The process is simple and most people who offer points for rent on this Board can be trusted without question. Just deal with someone who has been doing it for awhile and they can easily walk you through the entire process and answer all of your questions. Make sure there is some flexibility just in case you have to cancel. If I can help with your trip or answer any of your questions, let me know. docdds@aol.com :wizard:

I just rented points from a very nice DVC owner, and had no problems. I did a lot of research before I posted on the rent/trade board. I put in how many points, dates, location, room desired, and that I needed someone to be flexible about payment arragements. Before I responded back to the man I rented from I read some of his past posts and he looked trustworthy. I emailed him and we went from there. Before we settled on everything we spoke on the phone and any remaining doubts that I had vanished. We were able to get what I wanted and I really appriciated the time that he took to call and make arrangements for my husband and I. When he receives my deposit, he is going to mail the contract we made and the reservation sheet. HTH!

I have rented points from dvc members for the last 4 years. It is very easy to do and i saved a lot of money. I usually only rent from sun-thurs, as fri and sat point values are usually double, so i usually book my own room for cash those nights. I just put a post up stating what i am looking for and then people who have them email me back. Luckily, i have used 3 different people and have used the same person now twice. I now just email the past people i have used and ask them first, as they trust me and i trust them. Trust is a big thing in this. You are relying on them to get the room for you, and they want their payment from you so they dont lose the points after getting you the room. I have worked out many different payment arrangements. I have paid 10% down, they get the room, then sent me the conf and then i paid 25% balance each month, i have paid half down, then because i had it, just paid it off after i got the confirmation. I have been told to just have it paid 30 days prior and there have been no problems. Good luck!! I say renting points is the way to go!!

Is it possible to use a combination of my points and rented points? How's that work? Should I rent points and have the lessor make a reservation for me, then use my own points beginning on the next consecutive day?

I have rented points to people, both to DVC and non-DVC members. The DVC member (Sheriff, is this what you mean?) just sent me a check and as soon as it cleared, I transferred the points into her account directly. She could then do whatever she wanted with them. The only question is to what the expiration date on the points was, since we had a different use year month. In any case, it didn't matter to her as she was using them way before they expired.

Hope this helps!

:wave2: Thanks for all your replys, I new I could count on you guys! I now feel so much better about renting. I will keep all the e-mails and phones numbers that were given to me and when we decide when we are going (some time in 2006) i will post again to get everything worked out. I can't wait to go again! We were just there in December and i'm going crazy  knowing we won't be going back for another year or more! Thanks again.

I would only look for points that can be transferred to your account. That way, you keep it all together.

Cool, thanks. I wasn't aware that it was possible to have someone else's points transferred into my account.
