Questions About Renewing Annual Passes

We have Annual Passes that expire on January 2nd 2018.
We intend to renew our passes.
When would be the best time to purchase the renewal online ?
Do we have to wait until the old ones expire ?
If we don;t intend to use the new ones until May 2018, will the new pass "1 year clock" start the day of purchase or the first day of use ?
Is there any time limit between the date of purchase and the date of first use ?

You can renew 60 days before and 30 days after your expiration date. If you renew, your new expiration date will be Jan 2nd 2019. Renewing means it's not stopping. If you want your new date to be May 2019 then you'll need to let the AP's expire and get brand new ones

1 any time with in your window

2 no you can renew 60 days before or 30 days after

3 this is a renewal your date ( the day and month) dose not change but you get one more year

Another question. If the renewal option is not going to work for us and we decide to simply buy new ones and pick up upon our arrival in May 2018, can I buy a voucher in advance and activate it upon arrival (voucher valid for certain length of time ?)
If I do buy a voucher (months in advance of my trip) , will that show up in My Disney Experience allowing me to reserve rooms with the AP discount (even although I don't have my "actual" AP) ?

I think you can but you will need to do this 30 days after your AP expires ( maybe 31 days) and this should work like a new pass so you will be able to get the room discounts you just have to have the AP when you check in ( or voucher )

Yes. You'll be able to make FP's but the AP won't start your year until you activate it in person at wdw

Yes. I currently have a AP that I purchased about a month ago but have not yet activated. I was able to book (online) a room with the AP discount.

IF for some reason you want to put off the purchase of the AP, you can always call to make a reservation. You just need to have the AP at check-in.
