Questions about Postponing a Trip at the Last Minute

So my family and I have a four night WDW trip set for this weekend. But I woke up this morning feeling sick. Thankfully, the covid test came back negative. But I am still debating whether to postpone the trip. We are scheduled to leve tomorrow afternoon, so I am at least going to wait until this afternoon to make a decision.

I have never hd to cancel a Disney trip. We would definitely postpone it to another weekend? Is that possible? I know we would pay any difference in price between this weekend and whichever future weekend we select. But I don't want to eat the entire cost of this trip if we cannot go. We have already booked four nights at the GF, two days of park tickets (with park reservations already made), and booked round trip tickets on Mears Connect. Any advice on what to do if we decide to postpone? TIA

Did you book as a package or a room only reservation with park tickets purchased separately?

I do believe that Disney allows for postponing a trip, if you have your dates selected for another weekend - if the rate is higher, they will most likely waive the cancelation fee. As for Mears Connect, I think the cancelation penalty is 24 hours before, so you could most likely just switch the dates by modifying your reservation online.

So sorry, you are not feeling well. I would probably postpone being sick - not worth not feeling well at Disney. You want to enjoy your time on vacation.

I would call and postpone. If you explain you are sick, and are clear you want to rebook rather than cancel, they are going to waive any fees.

Also so you know, it is not recommended to test on day one of symptoms, because the new variant is extremely difficult to detect with a test until a few days after you get sick. So I wouldn’t assume you are in fact negative for Covid just yet.

But regardless, even if you don’t have Covid do you really want to be at Disney world, having to lie on the health questionnaire at check in saying you have no symptoms, having people glare at you when you sneeze or cough, and what if someone else in you family catches it too and is too sick to go out and enjoy the parks. These days, just not worth it to travel sick, even if you are covid negative (which as explained above it’d be too early to know for sure until you are already there).

I did exactly that in 2016 due to a medical issue less than two days out. I was able to postpone without penalty.

Separate

If you are not going to go this weekend, definitely reschedule as opposed to outright canceling. You are within the penalty phase and would lose your room deposit if you cancel this close to check-in. If you reschedule, you can simply apply that deposit to the modified reservation. You can also move your ticket dates and just pay any difference in price (if there is any) for the new dates.

Well, the good news is that I am feeling no worse today. So we've decided just to go for it. I know my partner and the disney baby are anxious to get away and I think I can power through. Thanks nonetheless for the advice. Hopefully I never have to use it lol
