Questions about Pop

We have never stayed at Pop, but are looking to do so and have a few questions.

What is/are the differences between a "preferred" room and a "standard" room?

What is the Disney transportation generally like from this resort?

Do the different buildings have different themes, and if so, is there some place that lists/shows the different themes?

TIA

A preferred room is guaranteed close to the food court and buses. With a standard, you could be close-by or you could have quite a walk.

Transportation from Pop is buses. They have the best bus service, IMO. There are separate queues for each park. Buses come often. Pop does not share buses with other resorts and only has one bus stop so the ride is quick. You get on and the next stop is the park!

The theme's are the decades. There are 5 sections: 50's, 60', 70's, 80's, 90's. The 50's, 60', and 70's are closest to the food court and buses. 80's and 90's are close to parking lots if you are driving. We've stayed in the 70's & 50's and loved them both.

To add to Kim's post, here's how each of the buildings are decorated:

50s - Bowling Pin stairwells and bowling pin pool
60s - Yo-Yo stairwells and hippy dippy (flower-shaped) pool
70s - Walkman stairwells
80s - Rubix cube stairwells
90s - Cell Phone stairwells and computer pool

I love Pop and I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time!!

I think the only difference between 'preferred' and 'standard' is location. We will be staying 'preferred' for the first time this Sep so I will know more after that. ;)
The transportation is good from POP, I have stayed 4 times (going again for a 5th) and never encoutered a problem. Of course there have been terribly long AM lines during busy times but there have always been extra busese to accomodate. I've been very happy with it.
The different buildings are themed by decades. 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's The basics of the rooms are very similar though. HTH! :)

Thank you very much. We will have our rental with us, as we'll only be staying at Disney for 2 or 3 days, since my brother lives in Orlando. That said, I'm sure my DS3 would like riding the buses as much as some of the actual attractions.

Further question on these decades. I think I've seen some pictures before of Pop. Does the 80s or 90s have some characters from "Toy Story", like the army men, or Mr. Potato Head. My DS really loves that movie, and would likely get a big kick out of staying near Mr. Potato Head. Heck, even this big kid would get a kick out of staying at the 80s with the Rubix Cube theming.

Mr & Mrs Potato Head are there... I don't remember what building they are near though. Maybe someone else knows...

Hobbes, that is AWESOME! I want to explore POFQ that way. How do you get to it?

Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head are between the 70's and 80's buildings.

One of the things I like best about Pop is the music. Each decade has it's own music and the main pool area plays a mix of tunes. There are also interactive play areas. The 70's building has a pop jets water play area and giant twisters to play. Have a great stay!

The location--closeness to the main pool, food court, etc. My personal opinion is that even the furthest out rooms are still relatively close in comparison to the other resorts. But that's just me--I know many others feel differently.

Depends on who you ask. When we went Nov 05, it was great! When we went May 06 it was horrible...several very long waits coming back from the parks in the evening.

Do the different buildings have different themes, and if so, is there some place that lists/shows the different themes?

Yes, but mainly just different theming on the outside, not so much inside the actual rooms.

Thanks everyone. I booked our room last night and requested the 80s building. Hopefully we'll get that one, but if not, no big deal. The CM also mentioned that they are going to be adding on to Pop: 1900s, 1910s, 1920s, 1930s, & 1940s. That would make alot more sense, as I wondered why it was called Pop Century, instead of Pop Half Century.
