Questions about PAT

I haven't cruised on the new ships yet - I did online check in for my inlaws and myself and of course the earliest PAT is 12:45am. So how does that work exactly?

That doesn't mean we have to sit outside the terminal until 1245 right?

Say we arrive at 11am and walk in and walk in - they hand us a boarding number?

I remember in the old days they would hand you a card with a number when you arrived and you got onboard based on that

Your boarding # is tied to your PAT. You can arrive early but you will still receive the same boarding #. So there could be people arriving after you with an earlier PAT and they will get a lower boarding #.
Also if for some reason the ship is late getting into port ( probably won't happen) you may be asked to wait outside until your PAT

If you arrive earlier than your selected Port Arrival Time, and the terminal is full (as it well may be at any time between 10:15-12:00) you may be asked to wait outside until the terminal clears a bit, or your PAT, whichever is first.

As noted, you'll get your boarding number when you check in. It's no longer just handed to you when you get there.

I'll also mention, if you arrive after 12:30, chances are that Open Boarding is already started (or soon will be). Anyone, holding any boarding number, may board at that time.

I think you meant 1245pm right? Of course.

As others have said, your boarding time will be based on your PAT unless you are concierge or have some other reason to get an earlier boarding time. Although not a given, sometimes cast members can over ride a later boarding group number if say families are traveling together and one has an earlier boarding time than the other.

Ok as long as we aren't sitting outside on the curb for hours lol- it doesn't sound like that will happen.

I don't mind getting there early and hanging out in the terminal until 1230.

Thanks!
